  • Hi, I found this app which is very good. Every day there's a different prayer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=letuspray.daily.prayers&hl=en

There's also a daily reminder to help me to remember to pray God in my busy life. Super!

  • I don't have any google devices but are these official prayers of the Church or just made up by the developer?

  • For anything not found in the prayer books I have, this is the best traditional site.

Don't know if there is an app for the site.

  • Why do you need an "app" to pray? Something amiss there. Get yourself a goodCatholic prayer book and keep it handy. Pray always.

  • I use Laudate on the iPhone, but it seems mostly geared towards people who attend the Novus Ordo and adhere to the Vatican II religion. For example, in its Confession App for Married, it has an examination of conscience question: "Have I avoided being prejudiced toward others because of race, color, religion or social status?" Being prejudiced against someone is wrong regardless of the circuмstance because it involves forming a negative opinion of a person without reason or actual experience. Including "because of... religion" makes it seem like discriminating in favor of the Catholic Faith is inherently wrong.

Needless to say, I am on the look out for a good traditional Catholic app.

No one "needs" a prayer book, digital, app, or otherwise but if you want to do a special novena or something they can be handy, especially when travelling.  I have digital copies of dozens of old Catholic books; I could never take that many with me when travelling.
But I'm only interested in pre-1955 material which is why I asked about this app.

  • While not a prayer app, "RemindMe" is a very flexible reminder app for recurrent tasks, such as saying an "Ave" at the top of the hour.

I find that building on humbler, smaller tasks such as with prayers and devotionals tends to work better, at least for the acedia prone such as, sadly, myself.

Also, for those more pressed and stressed, such as mothers, you can always check notifications for that missed in order to better tend to your duties without "sweating it"

I also notice, like a little planting, that it is almost "automatic" to build over time, such as making a good signum, adding little ejaculations, meditations and contemplations without really even 'making' myself do 'more'.

It also helps to set these reminders for recollection, such as saying a quick ave before and after posting here to mitigate error and to enhance.

The recollection really comes in because you find yourself more aware, of "counting the minutes", and so not straying so much into forgetfulness and if you lose custody, you aren't nearly so far gone.

(I know, but if you think I'm bad now...)
    "Lord, have mercy".

While it doesn't seem that any say that there is an absolute need for apps for anything, perhaps you otherwise have a point Nadir.

Is there something inherently wrong with using an app as a help, or do you have some cause for thinking that they can't or aren't likely to be such at all?

    "Lord, have mercy".

  • Guess, I'm just an old fogey, DZ. No, I don't see anything wrongwith it per se.
