While she recovered her footing, the woman was trying to undo the straps that attached her purse to the cart, and failing that, took her wallet from it and scurried away. Do not shop alone, ladies. ( or gentlemen, for that matter) People are getting desperate and crazy.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but am I reading that the woman had her purse in the cart?  If so, it is obvious she made herself an easy target.  Her purse should be on her person!

I constantly see people, men and women, who are obviously oblivous to their surroundings, a mugger's dream target. The best defense against robbery, always be aware of your surroundings.  In these days, our Guardian Angels have a lot of work to do, let's make their jobs a little easier by paying attention to what is going on around us!

Indeed. We should never forget our Guardian Angels. On the point of the purse in the cart. It's tragic people can no longer feel safe. I was at meeting on crime prevention last week. One Garda (Policeman) was saying to those of us attending to always keep your door locked to prevent crime. Instead of making people feel like prisoners in their home it is they that should be tackling crime. You shouldn't have to lock your door.

In some parts of mainly rural Ireland it is quite common to walk in to a neighbours house without knocking on the door. Doors are rarely if ever locked.

Most people in rural Ireland have shotguns or a rifle.
