  • Has anyone seen this series on the Middle Ages from the BBC?

    There are four parts:

    Medieval Mind--Knowledge
    Medieval Mind--Belief
    Medieval Mind--Power
    Medieval Mind--Sex

Each part is about 58 minutes long. It has the usual modernistic slant to it (from Prof. Robert Bartlett of St. Andrew's University) but contains a lot of fascinating information nonetheless.

I would recommend starting with the Knowledge set. I have not yet watched the part on Medieval Sex, but I did watch Belief and Power yesterday and am in the process of watching Knowledge tonight. Unfortunately, the best YouTube download I found was from someone calling himself EvolvedAtheist, but at least he's good for something, which is posting YouTube videos!

Anyway, if you have four hours to kill, or are fascinated with the Middle Ages as I am, take a look.

Start here and work your way through the other episodes. Each topic has six videos posted.

If you have already seen it, I would like to hear your views.

  • I forgot to mention that this series is worth watching if for no other reason than the gorgeous views of the English countryside and its old churches, castles, and convents.

For some reason I've always been enamored of the British landscape, ever since I was a child and used to watch Brit programming on PBS.

  • Knowledge 4 and 5 deal with St. Thomas Aquinas and Scholasticism:

  • I did not watch the videos right now, but I can say that any program with modernistic slant about the Middle Ages does not do those times justice in talking about them. They were times which were the opposite of our own, times when many had greater esteem for God.
