  • Is the Baronius Press version of the Little Office of the BVM a "good" version? It says it's based on the 1850 English version but then it also says that it has been "Fully updated to comply with the editio typica of the Breviary (1961) permitted by the Holy Father's Motu Proprio 'Summorum Pontificuм'."

What does it mean it has been updated to comply with the '61 Missal?

  • I am also looking for the best version.  I've looked at Baronius, St. Bonaventure, and Angelus Press.  I've looked at divinumofficium.com and even used the no longer available iPhone app.  The iPhone app indicates more when to kneel, sit, and stand, although I suspect there are some missing instructions.  The Angelus Press book has very little indication of when to kneel, sit, and stand, but there it is sometimes noted.  Can't seem to find enough of a sample of Baronius Press or St. Bonaventure Press versions to determine if they are good.  Divinumofficium.com has very little instructions on kneeling, sitting, and standing.

One positive for the Baronius Press edition is that it includes the chants.

The only reason I'm putting so much research into this is because I want to buy two.  One for the wife and one for myself.  And I don't want it to be a DOUBLE waste of money.

  • In terms of aesthetic value, it's a beautiful book.

    But, yes, it's also 1961.

On the other hand, I don't know where to find a traditional Little Office of similar quality (e.g. leather cover, smythe sewn, gold gilding, etc) as the Baronius Press edition.

So how is it different than a previous version?
