  • Hi Everyone,

My son's good friend is Jєωιѕн and we are invited to his barmitzpha (i have no idea how to spell it sorry). I have made the decision not to go to the actual ceremony but just to the reception after. I am a new traditional catholic (used to be novus ordo) and I didn't think it would be right if we were witnesses at this ceremony. Am I making the right decision or is this considered rude?? Help! thanks! :confused1:

  • At the very least, we cannot attend "other-religious" ceremonies or worship or churches. So that much is pretty certain. Even receptions don't sit right with me, but... I'm a bit fuzzy about this kind of thing.
I renounce any and all of my former views against what the Church through Pope Leo XIII said, "This, then, is the teaching of the Catholic Church ...no one of the several forms of government is in itself condemned, inasmuch as none of them contains anythi

  • Yes, in the strict sense even the reception is not the best idea, but not sure if it is a sin.  When In doubt ask your priest.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • The whole thing might remind you of the Novus Ordo.   :laugh1:

  • Ha! Good one Elizabeth! :roll-laugh2:
We ended up just going to just the reception afterwards, and had a great time. I even danced when they did Hava Nagila! Forgive me Father for I have sinned, I was Jєωιѕн for an afternoon. :roll-laugh2:

  • According to traditional practice, can't you go due t o your friendship, as you would to a wedding or funeral, as long as you attend only passively, with no active participation in the service?
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • They way it was taught to me was, only if it was a very close relative, not just friends, and even with that you must get permission from your priest.  You just can't assume permission.
    Please pray for my soul.
