I have a number of High-Church Anglican/Lutheran friends, and they are often closer to us than many Novus Ordites. Read Richard Hooker, Bishop Butler,  Edward Pusey, R. L Dabney, etc. You can't make a blanket statement like that about such a large group of people
We are talking about Catholics who become Protestants.

His followers did not follow him? Why do they call themselves Lutherans?

Catholics always make the mistake of thinking that Protestants are like Catholics, a Church with a hierarchy and dogmas. They are not, the Lutherans for example are all over the place and in the end, each Protestant is a church of one.
