Liberals often use straw men . . . you must be a liberal?

No.  However, if you want to make a point, then make it, don't misrepresent what others are saying.

Now there is false postulate #3"Liberals often use straw men...you must be a liberal?" This time followed by the less famous but effective "No, BUT"(or "However" in this post) with the result that I'm charged with 1)using "straw men" 2) not making any point 3) misrepresenting what others have said.  So, the end impression is the same: "this person is either liberal-- or otherwise bad in some way."

The "point" was there. I simply didn't name all the conservative Catholics who've been branded here.  If an illustration is a "straw man," then so are parables. But  see how I can easily slip and take the "bait" that I alluded to in the earlier post?

Tele, how about just praying that Christ enlighten me? I'll pray the same for you while wondering how to approach this forum.

    * I did make one error which I didn't edit in time!: "(at least there's no salvation outside a forum)"  Of course I meant the opposite!   :laugh1:

  • How many times have Telesphorus and others been baited themselves and even attacked for allegedly going against Catholic doctrine, for being un-Catholic and pagan?! You only seem to see the side to which you are in sympathy with! Say we're wrong and why, but don't make grave accusations of being against Catholic doctrine without proof! It is true, I sometimes erred on responding sharply like the opposition, but it is no excuse for the opposition to tell us we're un-Catholic without any ounce of proof or manufacturing beliefs we never held.

Please, where are you going, Peter? I have not been baiting Tel, though some probably have.  It's a tendency that very well can cut both ways.  That is partly why I avoided names in the long post.

So as not to get caught up in more bad feelings here, I will exit this thread-- at least for some time.

God Bless to all Catholic Christians!

I was talking about the other thread, now running to almost 200 pages, that you apparently referred to; if not, I apologize. No hard feelings; just trying to say people ought to read carefully their opponents' arguments before responding thoughtfully, without trying to interpret their actions unfairly (which I am guilty of at times, I admit).
