Attendance was low for three reasons, one, the situation with the SSPX, two, the weather was terrible, tail end of tropical storm, Andrea, three, refusal on part of diocesan bishop to allow SSPX to use even the parking lot, field, and picnic pavilion. The Masses were said next to the town boat ramp, miles from the sacred ground. Scant overnight accommodations added to the problem. There are few motels in the area, so many pilgrims camped in tents in the field or stayed in RVs in the lot. This year, camping space for tents was severely limited. Since access to the boat ramp had to be maintained, those who wished to tent were assigned spaces and had to arrive by 5:00 pm on Friday. There was no room for RVs and sleeping in cars was not allowed. The shrine itself, was strictly off-limits to tradcats, as usual. I might have gone despite the rain, but it was impossible for me to get there by 5:00 to pitch my tent. Personally, I "don't do motels" as the stuffy air makes me sick. Between the rain, no accommodations, and family obligations on Sunday, I did not attend for the first time since my conversion in 2006.
