'But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment.'
Matthew 12:36
Now let us take these idle words, and write them down to continue on until the end of the world, and you have the career of the writer, who, every vice he possesses in speech and thought is now graven down in stone in pen, and ever incitement to sin his thoughts and words contain for others, wittingly or not, the same. His bad example is made public scandal as a living.
Whether this be overt, or covert by simple acceptance of various propagandas and evils of the world view, the poisonous water has the same evil effect.
A career as a writer is rather like that of a tightrope artist, except of course, one falls more frequently, and when one falls, more people break their bones and die than yourself because you are influencing them, you are pulling them along down with you.
Perhaps let's not precipitously canonize folks who wish such careers, and presume they have the uncommon virtuous sufficient to it?
Perhaps we might recall how often the saints protested they wrote only under obedience, and with great trepidation and hesitation. How many people write like a saint?
As for actors and actresses, I know of none who have not dressed immodestly, spoken fouly, and incited others to licentiousness, and this in public exhibition. Whether they're channeling demons as part of 'emoting' or making vulgar jokes in the brothel that is the behind the scenes -- It's part of the profession, and the common subject of what they act out in romances and comedies. It hardly needs saying that this is the case, which is why one wonders at having to say it among Christians.
The difference between actor and prostitute might as well normally be none, save perhaps the actor is a prostitute and an exhibitionist.
