  • Some say that all authorities are appointed by God. Does this include the Antichrist? How about people like Nancy Peℓσѕι? Obama? etc. In other words, people who support things like abortion, ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, etc. Can we say that 100% of authorities that have been appointed are of God? I don't believe so. What do you think?

  • mmmm, that sounds very familiar to the sermon I heard today....
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

That might be why I am asking the question.

If these people were appointed by God, then the only explanation I can think of is that maybe things would be worse if someone else were in power. Thats about it.

But then again, how could things be worse than the Antichrist when he comes to power over the entire earth? There would have to be someone better than him.

They are legitimately elected officials whose electioin came about because of God's providence. We are obligated to respect them as such. We owe them the appropriate obedience in all things with the exception of sin.

  • I think 'that because of sin the human race do not hear truth as they should.  The more we sin the more we close our ears to the truth.  Evil leaders get elected or put in their position because humans are full of sin and do not have the grace to see the evil, do not have the grace to stand up to evil.  If every person alive said the Rosary tomorrow I truly believe the world would be converted and no more evil leaders.  It is our actions which allow these evil people to thrive.

What if they weren't legitimately elected? As in a rigged election or they maintained power illegally? Something like this might be similar to an Anti-Pope where someone rises to power and shouldn't be there.

Were Anti-Popes appointed by God? I think not. So when we say that all authorities are appointed by God then I would think that there are some circuмstances there. Some people cheat their way into power. That can't be of God.

I guess I find it hard sometimes because some people in power represent some really bad things. Why would God appoint them? I find it hard to believe, but it could be true.

  • bowler spelled something out yesterday pertaining to this:

    Quote
Saint John Eudes  wrote in "The Priest, His Dignity and Obligations":

“The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clergy who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than charity and affection of devoted shepherds ...

“When God permits such things, it is a very positive proof that He is thoroughly angry with His people, and is visiting His most dreadful anger upon them. That is why He cries unceasingly to Christians, ‘Return O ye revolting children ... and I will give you pastors according to My own heart’. (Jer. 3:14,15) Thus, irregularities in the lives of priests constitute a scourge upon the people in consequence of sin.”
    .........................

Before some audiences not even the possession of the exactest knowledge will make it easy for what we say to produce conviction. For argument based on knowledge implies instruction, and there are people whom one cannot instruct.  - Aristotle

    Interesting. That makes sense.

Unless you have incontrovertible proof to the contrary you should accept the election results that are given.

They are not appointed by God, they are permitted by God. What St. John Eudes said applies to all our leaders whether spiritual or secular:

Notice that it says that God permits these things
