Violent??
Please elaborate.
What happens when the Church, by way of papal definition clarifies a matter of faith (what the Bible states or reveals) by way of making its contradiction formal heresy, and then is shown by science to have got it WRONG.
In other words, what happens when the infallibility of the Church is proven wrong.
Answer: The Catholic Church is not guided by divine providence.
So, the record shows, members of the Holy Office and throughout the Church, faced the dilemma of a Church PROVEN wrong by science. Two book are on record as showing how the dogma of infallibility is falsified, Fr Roberts's and Hans Kung.
Now the Holy Office cannot have that can it, so they set about a SCHEME, a SCAM to try to WIGGLE out of this CRISIS OF FAITH. From the very beginning Catholics started to dismiss the 1616 decree as not a papal decree, merely a decision by a few cardinals in the Holy Office. They then switched the Galileo case to one of science, not faith.
Fr Olivieri of the 1820 Holy Office said that Galileo had put forward a heliocentrism on the basis that if the earth did orbit the sun, all on earth would have a VIOLENT reaction, like trees blowing, birds being swept backwards etc. And he said THAT was the heliocentrism condemned by the Church in 1616, 1633 and 1664.
But in 1820, Olivieri said, science had shown no such VIOLENT reaction to a moving earth would result leaving a NON-HERETICAL heliocentrism. He agreed the 1616 decree was papal and irreversible but that that only applied to the VIOLENT heliocentrism.
If it was not all on record one could not believe the Holy Office, with the Pope at its head, could offer such a scam as a means of resolving the 1616 papal decree.
Indeed Fr Olivieri must not have read Copernicus's book On the Revolutions for in it Copernicus STATES HIS HELIOCENTRISM WAS A NON-VIOLENT ONE.
