  • Anyone got a food dehydrator?

Do you use it or is it a waste of money sitting on a shelf?

    Do you like it?

    Do you recommend yours?

    What brand, &tc?

  • I'm really looking into getting one of these. A woman at my work, who has 4 kids, says its the best piece of equipment in her house. She loves making all sorts of snacks for her kids. She told me she uses it so much it doesn't even come off her kitchen counter. She has a very good (expensive) one, but I've done quite a bit of research and am looking to start off with a $30 one on amazon.

  • Personally, I'm on a lower carb diet (have been for 6 months) and would like to make beef jerky with it more than anything; but I think it'd be great for the kids too, based on my co-workers experience.

  • When I was a kid my parents had one. I can't remember the brand. They had fun with it for a few months, but soon lost interest.

I want one. I've been considering it for about a year now but haven't bought one because I don't know which one to get! So any suggestions in this thread are appreciated!

One thing I do know, is that I want one of the higher end ones that the layers pull out like drawers. My parents dehydrator was stacked with layers in a way that you had to remove all the tops ones to get to the bottom one. It was kind of a pain.

You can do so much with dehydrated food. The prospect of owning one is exciting.

Thanks. It looks very similar to the one my parents had. $30 seems like a heck of a deal! The fruit in the picture looks delicious.  :ready-to-eat:

  • Whatever brand you buy make sure it has a temperature control.  Herbs and veggies should be done at a low temp, meat and eggs higher.  Yahoo Groups has many groups that you can join for information on food storage/dehydrating.
