  • The wife and I, after studying our temperments, are recommended to practice morning and evening reflection as well as meditation. Since I'm not exactly sure what this entails I thought I would ask if anyone has been doing these things regularly.

Also if there is  good book with meditations please let me know. I have ordered the catechism of mental prayer, I hope that will explain things.

  • I have used a book called, "Conversation With Christ," by  Peter Thomas Rohrbach.  It is based on the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila about prayer.

Also, there are picture meditation books based on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary from Loreto Publications called, "Touch of Grace, Portrait of the Passion and Crown of Glory."

    Hope it helps :)

  • Imitations of Christ.  Also, make it simple.  In the morning, I say the Morning offering and then I say the rosary, which is meditations of the mysteries. I try to say 3 rosaries.  It is not a promise but a goal for me. And if you read the little book, The secret of the rosary by  Alphonsus De Ligouri it is very important.  Next to the Mass the rosary is so effective for all our needs.  But this book really will stun you!

  • To get things started, it is good to get in the habit of making the Sign of the Cross the instant you awaken, at any time.  In general, beg your Holy Guardian Angel to help you remember to pray the morning offering, and ask for all indulgences, and kiss your scapular often.

For someone with my temperment it is more effective for me start simple with something I have absolute confidence in.

I often use sacred music to recollect my thoughts etc.  May you and your wife grow in God's love, Thursday and everyone.

  • I highly recommend the Divine Office, either using the Breviary or the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

WHat temperment are you? (if you don't mind my asking) I'm melancholic choleric, the wife sanguine. Studying the 4 temperments seems to be a great way to start to make spiritual progress.

  • If I recall, I'm choleric and melancholic. ( I borrowed the book years ago so I don't have it handy. )

I'm an artist with the typical temperment. I am praying to be able to go on an Iganation Retreat.  It seems huge progress is made by those able to do attend.
