  • Has anyone here been to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado?  I'm going this summer, and I'd like to know the sights that are just a MUST.  Lemme know!

    A long time ago 1986.

Well, I remember Estes Park, and hiking a long way, and seeing beavers in an ice cold creek.

And Long's peak, crossing the timberline.

My little brother was in the womb at the time.

    It's a neat location.

We stayed a for a Week in Estes Park on Vacation about 5 years ago.  We went River rafting / Horseback riding / Day Hiked up to some Lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park.   And went Fishing just about every day.

  • Having grown up in CA with weekly jaunts to the Sierras with Dad for fishing, I thought Rocky Mountain N.P. wasn't worth the trip.  It reminded me of Reagan's
"If you've seen one redwood...."  There are, of course, no redwoods in the Rockies, but the Rockies seemed rather prosaic for someone with ready access to the Sierras.  On the other hand, if you have only known the plains, it will be awesome.

I have been to the Sierras as well. I have been to the Tetons - the Cascades the Rockies and the Ozarks and Big Sur.  The Redwoods in Sequoia and Yosemite. The Eastern Sierra as well. Rocky Mountain National Park is as good as any of them. The Sierras can get overcrowded in the summer.

  • Pardon me for being pedantic, but those are Sequoias in Seqouia National Park.

Maybe Reagan should have said, "If you have seen one redwood, it's close enough for a Sequoia."

    I am from San Diego.

    I have backpacked the Sierras.

What I am saying is - Rocky Mountain National Park is just as nice as the Sierras.

Redwood Trees are impressive.  But the Rockies are impressive as well.

  • Yes, agreed.  I am only hinting that if you have seen one, it might be more fun for Laramie to go to the beach or the desert for a change of scenery.
