  • We should pick a saint's name, but is there any preferance among Saint's name? I mean, are catholics encoureged or advice in anyway to chose from a certain category of saintly names?
If someone is named Christine or Christian, is our Lord his patron?

  • If anyone tried to give me advice about such, I would tell them:

"You are more than welcome to live YOUR OWN life, Sir, but I will take care of MINE.  Thank you for extracting your nose from my affairs."
"Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is all man."

  • Oh, again I worded what I meant in a bad way!
I just wanted to know whether for example apostles' names or Biblical names are more encoureged. Because I was thinking about what would be my future baptismal name.

  • I apologize, my good lady, for I wrote my response quickly, not thinking about your own linguistic obstacles.  That said, you do VERY well when expressing yourself in English.

Names go through phases of popularity, etc., but there is no set rule as to some kind of hierarchy (like we will earn points for having chosen this or that name).

Pray about it, read more about the Saints, and go with your heart.  If you go with something like "Chameequah", I will come over to Iran and slap you silly.   :boxer:

  • This doesn't exactly answer the question but I read somewhere that St. Isaac Jogues was named Isaac because it was a fad among French Catholics at that time to choose a name from the Bible, influenced by their protestant neighbors.

  • You could choose Teresa, after Teresa of Jesus (Avila).

I think that since my parents never gave me an English name, I will go by Alfonso from now on.

  • One way to choose your name is to choose the saint whose feastday is your birthday.

  • It is Saint Boniface on my birthday. A male Saint. and in some calenders there are some little known female saints, who were martyrs, and no record of their lives is survived as far as I know.
As for my preferances, I love mystic Saints like: Sts Gertrude, Margaret, Catherine, Teresa etc...

How it is done in Korea (probably a custom brought from Europe) is when there is no saint of your gender in your birthday the one nearest to your birthday is chosen. But this method is used for infants and adults who don't have a preference. So I think it's probably best to choose the name of the saint you are drawn to.
