Any Benefactors? Help with server cassock for son

  • As many of you know, I am managing an independent chapel near San Antonio Texas. We have weekly Mass with Fr. Zendejas and Fr. Garcia.

Despite the fact we have a building, weekly Mass, etc. we're actually way behind in terms of parishioners and monetary support. My own family is already maxed out on what we can afford to donate to the chapel.

I'd like my son (age 9) to start learning how to serve Mass, but all my server cassocks (Age 17 -- 58") are sized for me, since I acquired them when I was a seminarian. My son will eventually be taller than me, but not yet :)

Catholic Supply of St. Louis has a Toomey server cassock for a little over $65 shipped.

A couple months ago, I bought a couple altar-boy-sized surplices -- so we're good to go for surplices.

We just bought a large A/C unit for the chapel (Texas is a hot place), installation, electric work to put in outlets, 2 concrete sidewalk slabs, and a bunch of other things. We're basically spent out for a while. We're trying to make the chapel as suitable for Mass as possible -- we're doing everything we can with our very limited means (speaking of which, if you have any need for a computer programmer -- let me know!).

I know many Trads are strapped for cash, so if that describes you, please disregard this post. I'm not looking to ask anyone who's already struggling. I'm just putting this out there, in case someone has the means, and would like the help further the cause of Traditional Mass chapels sticking to Tradition 100% with no compromises OR cult-like behavior.

If you're interested in helping (any amount is fine), please PM or e-mail me (matthew at cathinfo.com). I have a Paypal account, etc.

    God bless,

    Matthew

  • When we first hosted the Resistance Masses here, we bought our boys some  cassocks from ebay.  The children grow so fast and the cassocks were in really good condition and less than half the price as new ones.  You can't always find them, but you might want to keep your eyes out.  Sorry I can't help more than that.

  • A big "Thank you" to those who responded! May God bless you for your generosity towards the cause of Tradition and the building up of the Catholic Church (in this particular case, a small outpost of the One True Church in rural Texas).

Just to let everyone know, we did get enough for the cassock. But the chapel could also use other things, such as a 2nd altar boy's cassock, so I'm not going to turn anyone away! :)

Every time I wish we had more people attending, I just try to think "what can I do to make this chapel better?" I want to remove as many obstacles from people considering this chapel as an option. Some might want sufficient A/C so they can stay reasonably comfortable during the Summer -- done. Some might want it clean and distraction-free -- done. Some might want a normal looking altar -- working on that too.  Everyone has their "show stoppers". I want to remove as many of those as possible, so the chapel is as attractive and viable as possible.

It really is a labor of love.

Whoa!  Didn't Pope Bergoglio just say we need to cut down on air conditioning to save the planet?   :roll-laugh2:

Yeah, don't get me started. Even many non-Catholics are smart enough to know that global warming is a hoax.

He needs to experience a Texas summer. A/C isn't just "nice" around here. It's actually worse than it was 50 or 100 years ago, with all the changes in building design. You need a lot of trees and a very tall ceiling -- and it's still pretty hot and humid.

On the plus side, "winter" around here is a joke! At least for those of us who have experienced a real winter or two...
