  • Several members have addressed concerns with this particular sub-forum.

They say there is no accountability, and that ad-hominems and lack of charity is running rampant.

But maybe they haven't been there in a while?  I do try to delete the obvious garbage and uncharitable posts, but when a thread is 10 pages long, I figure "the people have spoken -- it's a necessary topic!"

I considered deleting the "S2Srea -- should he go?" thread, but I decided against it.
The anonymous OP (original poster) looks like an idiot, since most people voted for S2S to stay, and the OP got a ridiculous amount of downvotes. If it were me in S2S's position, I would want the thread to stay.

Anyhow, I am working on a solution, but you are going to have to be patient.

The solution is going to look something like: you have to be a logged-in member to post anonymously in that subforum -- there will be something like a checkbox.

In the meantime, just report any threads that need attention -- you're more than welcome to use the PM system.

    Want to say "thank you"?

Imagine that all the discussions one this forum were held in a normal setting, say in a home or at Church or anywhere people gather to talk and discuss matter of the Catholic faith.
Everyone in the setting is Catholic and is expected to act and speak in a civil and charitable manner. Then some moron pipes up and starts attacking someone they don't know with stupid incoherent and uncharitable remarks. What is the Catholic or right way to deal with this person?
Do you just let them rant on and on thinking they will simply discredit themsleves? They may well discredit themsleves but that does not mean that this sort of carry on should be tolerated and that they should have free reign to make a fool of themselves and insult others when everyone else is expected to be civil and charitable.
The right thing is tell them to shut up or get out!

    Just my opinion.

That is a good solution. It will help a lot, I think.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

I have to admit, some of the things people say to each other on here is unbelievable. I can't imagine a lot of the stuff that is said on this forum in a conversation between Catholics in real life, let alone taking place at Church.

  • What purpose is served by the double anonymity?  After all, except for a few, we choose anonymous screen names.

Many of those who come here to incite people may not be Catholic at all, but may intend to weaken anti-modernist resistance by posting all kinds of garbage.

I would do away with the anonymous subforum, but if it is to be kept, I do not see any other possibility than to establish a kind of system where all the posts that are made there must first go to the moderator, who then decides whether they will be published or not.

  • While I initially looked at the Anonymous subforum with curiosity and even posted a few comments, I have figured that it really isn't worth my time or energy.

I sometimes click on a topic that looks curious, especially if I don't notice the italics which tell me its from the Anonymous forum, but I have made the conscious decision not to post there and not to read any more than a few posts once I see that unregistered guests are posting.  The problem I see here is that it appears to be someone arguing with himself.

On a forum such as this, however, everyone is anonymous.  Even if you use your real name as your screen name, few, if anyone, knows who you are unless you are already famous for some other reason.  If, for example, Benedict 16 were to register on the forum, he would not be an anonymous poster.

On the other hand, except for an exceedingly few people, even if I were to use my true name on this forum, no one would know who I was and most people who read this forum who know me personally already know my screen name.  In that regard, TKGS really isn't an anonymous poster.  I just don't want all my posts to show up if I do an internet search of my name.
