  • When I was still in the Novus Ordo, one time I was anointed by a priest. I told him I wanted to confess my sins first, but he said it was unnecessary because the Anointing of the Sick forgave sins.

I always thought that when you get anointed, or traditionally received the sacrament of Extreme Unction, you had to confess your sins first, but this Novus Ordo priest was taught that it was unnecessary.

Was I right, that confession first was necessary, or was he right, that when you receive the sacrament of Extreme Unction you do not need to go to confession first?
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

That's what I thought. The scary thing is that this priest will give the same bad advice to the dying and they will not confess their sins before they die.

Welcome to Brave New Church, where never is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day...

Confession is required wherein it is possible.

  • Remember this, whoever is on call, at a hospital, chapalin(sp),  is supposed to do any sect.  That is, if he be a Rabbi, he will see on your chart that you are catholic and he is to give you last rites, rosary, whatever.  If there is a catholic deacon on all, he can do whatever the Jєωs do or the protestant.  They are to do any, and they have special programs to instruct them.  So, watch out.

I have spent enough time in hospitals around chaplains to know that this is simply not generally true.  Chaplains try to support everyone, and they are taught not to push their personal faith on people who don't share it, but no Rabbi chaplain is going to try to do last rites and no Baptist is going to celebrate a High Mass.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
