  • One of the biggest apostates of the NO is dead. May God have mercy on him.

He died in his sleep, said his niece, Laura Durkin. Father Greeley had been in poor health since suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2008.

His racy novels and detective stories, which often closely paralleled real events, aired out Catholic controversies and hummed with detailed bedroom romps that kept readers rapt and coming back for more. Best-sellers like The Cardinal Sins in 1981 earned him millions of dollars, much of which he donated to the church and charities.
"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

  • Not to be too snarky, I'll say a prayer for him, but I was thinking his traumatic brain injury must have occurred much earlier.

:laugh2: So morbid, but so funny.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

My Avatar is Fr. Hector Bolduc. He was a faithful parish priest in De Pere, WI,

  • I've read many of his books.  I generally enjoyed them at the time (during my novus ordo days).

I caught him in a lie during the brouhaha of Mel Gibson's "The Passion".  On Chris Matthews' show Fr. Greeley was talking about how unfaithful the movie was to the Bible and he stated that Our Lord forgave His crucifiers.  Well, in the movie, Jesus asks God to forgive them three times.  So, the portrayal had Our Lord giving even more forgiveness than is stated in Sacred Scripture.  However, that wasn't Fr. Greeley's intent.

Fr. Greeley was committed to the new theology and the new ecclesiology of the novus ordo.  So, he has to carry that with him to his Particular Judgement.  He fully embraced the apostasy in all its facets although he did pretty it all up with some Catholic-looking window dressing.

I saw a picture in a diocesan newspaper once in which he was at some sort of function (I don't remember what it was) but he was wearing a suit and tie.  His picture in the diocesan newspaper column was of him in a suit and tie.  Later, I saw him being interviewed supposedly giving the Catholic position on some issue and he was wearing a Roman collar.  I noted this apparent inconsistency to someone who was more in the know than I and was told that he never wears clerical dress except when he is being interviewed on television.

    Poor soul.
