  • Ok, so I have been here for a little while. During that time I have read a lot, and posted occasionally. I have noticed a tendency by certain posters to lift other's comments, twist them and re-post out of context. Yet when these same people are asked simple and direct questions, they don't respond and are nowhere to be seen.

I had hoped to find a place where mature adult conversations about faith, morals and the difficulties of living as a Catholic in the modern world could flourish. But instead it seems that most just want to point out what they see as other's errors, and they love nothing more than to condemn their fellow-posters to hell.

All the name-calling and one-upmanship is wearying in the extreme, and I am giving serious consideration to finding a more enlightening, mature and Christian place in which to spend my time.

I hope you will not give up so easily. I have enjoyed your posts on other forums, and I had hoped that you would stay here too because of the wealth of information you possess, and because of your calm disposition.
    .
Yes, there are a lot of immature men who post here thinking that just because they are men, they can use profanity, post ad hominems, and put down others, especially those of the female gender.
    .
We are all sinners; none of us are perfect, and our zeal is so misplaced. It would be so inspirational if people would act and write as if Christ were coming in a few minutes. How many souls would be saved?
    Lord have mercy.

  • Try to ignore those who enjoy drama and arguing.  A message board does not change human nature; these people are everywhere.  There are some great posters on this site and some with great connections to catholic news.  It's worth it!

Indeed, the primary reason I visit CathInfo is for the news.
CathInfo is far superior than Drudge.

  • Irish,

On this forum, you're allowed hearty debate, jousting and sometimes fighting on topics.
(This is natural for people of Irish descent... yes? )   :boxer:

Some folks are thin skinned and let the "thumbs down" bother them.

If you find another non-neo-trad Catholic forum, that is more mature and intellectual, please share the link with us.

  • Okay... I see your point

Cathinfo is filled with so much "negativity" and "immaturity"...

  • IC, you might prefer a forum with a more "hands-on" style of moderation.  Human nature being what it is, the more freedom allowed to members, the more there will be immaturity and drama.  But, of course, moderator intervention comes with its own negative aspects.

The other consideration is what doctrinal/ideological positions you are able to tolerate.  Is it important to you to be in a forum that favours the Resistance position?  Would you like being in a forum in which sedevacantism is the dominant position?  How do you feel about "Ecclesia Dei" trads?  Each forum has its own composition in terms of the opinions presented.

Another factor to consider is the level of traffic you prefer.  Would you like a small forum with a dozen or so posts a day?  Or do you like having more posts, more variety of topics and more posters?

I suggest that people should figure out what they want and then choose the forum or forums that come closest to it, recognizing the trade-offs involved.  There is little to be gained by complaining.  It changes nothing and merely adds to the negative feelings in the forum.

I could give you some names of other forums that you could check out, but you will find that there is no perfect forum  They are all filled with sinners.

    That wasn't my point.

I believe that I was reinforcing yours.
It's like the Church; it "would be" the perfect society except for all the people, and even when you find the "perfect" fit be they wives, congregations, cars whatever you'll eventually wake up, at best, to a new flavor of the the same old thing.

I think it's like those tacky little half heart necklaces; you find someone or something perfectly flawed, that fills in and compliments your own.

I think that the Irishes of the world are looking more for a high-tea than a tavern.

Hey, you could try eCatholic; they booted me because I refused to call one of their priests "father".

Well said. There are probably more forum members who agree with you, but don't want to comment.

Mature adult conversations are few and far between here.

If you ever find a good forum with mature trads, please let us know. I don't think that such a forum exists, or ever will.  Trads who want to post online are a bitter bunch, for the most part. The trads who are reasonable don't tend to want to post on the internet. They have a life, and don't need an internet presence.

Though I do recall the Angelqueen forum from days of old, before the SSPX began the reconciliation process with Rome. That was a good forum.

Not to worry, Dizzy. Sedevacantists will be allowed to spew nonsense indefinitely here.
