  • I can see there is an introduction thread but I suspect that I could derail it with this post.  I hope it is OK to do it this way.

I came here originally to explain the context of an FE post that was reposted here.  I believed it was important to say that the anger expressed at me in that post was justified so that people would not think ill of the poster.

I have fulfilled my original goal and am now considering staying on.  If I do, I will probably on occasion object to FE bashing that I see here.  I am attached to FE by loyalty and affection.  The reason I am considering staying here is the hope of encouraging better relations between FE and CI.  I can see there is a lot of bad blood in the past, but I see these inter-forum wars as reflecting badly on traditional Catholicism.  I would like to try to do something about it.

Is this idea fundamentally flawed?  Does it break any rules?  Should I just leave?  I do not wish to inflict myself on people who do not want me.

No JayneK of course not.  But I would ask you to look at the way those people behaved and ask yourself if there is any possible justification for unrestrained nastiness.  They have a fundamental problem that goes way beyond the ordinary flaws and defects of the struggling Catholic.

I have seen some very nasty posts about CI and about you from some  FE posters.  There are even a few people who seem to go out of their way to inflame the already existing bad feelings.  But the vast majority do not participate in the nastiness.

  • Listen Jayne,

You should feel right at home here! I'm relatively new here myself and I'm liking already! FE is a website that does have useful info on it, but sorry to say, the discussion forums are not Catholic in any way, shape or form. Many of the people who post there don't seem to take Catholicism seriously. Maybe I'm being uncharitable, cold, etc. but this is what I've seen (why do I keep emphasizing that "these are my observations"?). You are so out of place at FE, and what you saw here with that thread about FE isn't something that I've seen to go on very often. I believe that many of the members here are quite nice, whereas FE members only seem to be nice until you vehemently disagree with them on any given issue.

You really shouldn't leave. Where would you go? CatholicInfo is a great place! It's much better than "Catholic" Answers, more interesting than Angelqueen and certainly much more Catholic than Fish Eaters.

    Here's to Jayne! :alcohol:

For those who I have unjustly offended, please forgive me. Please disregard my posts where I lacked charity and you will see that I am actually a very nice person. Disregard my opinions on "NFP", "Baptism of Desire/Blood" and the changes made to the sacra

  • By the way, have any of you noticed that "Catholic" Answers has been having a money crisis, where they need a certain amount of money to keep their forums running? They have a little thermometer thing on the side of the forums that's been stuck at 81% for days now. You'd want to think a website with as much internet presence as CA would be able to raise a measly 2000 or so dollars (which I believe was the deficit they claimed they were running at) to keep their forums running. Also, if they really need the money that much they should just cut it out of Karl Keating's 200k+ salary. Or maybe Jimmy Akon's 100k+ salary, and so on.

I saw that its pretty funny.

As far as FE goes it is a forum for pseudo Catholics, reform of reformers and general crybabies. I used to be there and then the fruitcake forum owner changed the rules making it so that sedevacantists in essence couldn't post. Quis's head is way up his ass. There were a few good people there but it just wasn't worth the Bull crap.

I suspect that most people have their "niceness" tested when others disagree with them, regardless of forum.

I'm not questioning that CathInfo is a great place, but I already have a place.  I am not looking for a new place.  What I would like is a more charitable and peaceful coexistence between FE and CI.  I think that spending some time here getting to know people will help me to understand if this is possible and if I can do something towards it.

(I am old enough for alcohol but I am allergic so I can't drink it.  I'll keep you company having soft drinks.)

  • Those who are familiar w CI are able to notate that the 'bad blood' between CI and FE is very limited. I dont even have a screen name there, and I would reckon that most here are the same. IgnusArdens is were I've see most of those from CI share a home...

    Absolutely not.  Welcome :)

Hey, it happens.  I'm sure we have both encountered posters who are painful or messy.

  • Actually, I am usually the mess maker...or so they tell me...

    Welcome aboard, (53-ish) girlie...

Either you had a different username when I was at FE, or you arrived there after I was shown the door despite having broken no rules (2006-ish?) -- Vox, whom I still love dearly, wanted to take things a direction which, so she thought, could not involve me (which is absurd, as I have the most universally-agreeable personality this side of the grave...just ask me...).  Whatever the case, I rather like what I have seen of your spirit and wish you and yours the very best :)

Thanks for the welcome.  I have only been on FE for about a year and a half.  And the feeling is mutual.

    Absolument, madame :)

I am nothing if not polite and hospitable.  Come to think of it, those are two of the few things I do, in any way, possess, and the others are not worth more than a few, hyper-inflated Bernanke Bucks, so... :scratchchin:
