  • While this is an accurate assessment, it is among the least of our worries.  I know you likely realize this, Matthew.  For my part, I am a Certified Sommelier and lead server at a very high-end dining establishment these days and work in an industry that, in my opinion, has died overnight and will not return in a manner remotely similar to what it had become (which isn't all bad, as it is just one part of modern life that is unsustainable and propped up by seemingly-endless credit).

  • Mark my words: brick and mortar will NEVER fully recover after Coronavirus. Not in a year, not in 2 years.

I have always wanted to possibly do this line of work. I love food and the atmosphere. I did do quasi fine dining once. A prime rib/steak house. I wish you the best.

  • CNN believes that this crisis will forever change grocery shopping ...

People are actually trying those shopping / delivery services that had not really taken off.

  • Alcohol, tobacco and firearms and ammo will soon become premium barter items.

At least ammo is still on the shelves unlike many other products.

"Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms" --- for you, it's just a government agency.  For me, it's coin of the realm :jester:

And some people thought it was just a convenience store in Idaho...

I agree with much of what you've said. Read James Knustler's "World Made by Hand" and "The Long Emergency". This Biggerin' and Biggerin' to quote the Lorax, will lead us to disaster in the end.
Reliance on Amazon, and it's fast shipping destroys communities.
I'd have thought that of all people, the SSPX Resistance would see the dangers in becoming atomized, individual units in the huge world.

    Where's the clapping emoji?

Cheap goods now comes at the expense of social capital. There is a damned if you do, damned if you don't element too as the added ingredients of diversity & poz drives people towards things like Amazon and increasing transactionalism.

  • Buy online with what?

Loads of people have no job and no income.

There is 1 trillion in overnight debt.

The banking system will collapse.  How are you going to pay?

This is the collapse of the global economy.  Amazon won't be functioning in a year.

The Wuhan coronavirus isn't deadly enough to collapse globalization. Previous rounds of global inter-connectivity were only halted by severe pandemics like the Black Plague and the Spanish Flu.

I expect the opposite will happen, a doubling down.
    Pray for me, always.

It isn't deadly enough to collapse Peoria, Illinois or Holyhead, Wales...yet here we are.  Obviously there is something much, MUCH bigger going on here.

It is enjoyable, to be sure.  Thank you for the kind wishes.  As of today, I no longer have a job.

  • Either this is the beginning of a severe chastisement prophesied by the saints, or things will get so bad only to be suddenly be "saved" by a new individual on the world stage who will quickly come to supreme power (antichrist anyone?)

Either way, things are not looking good for anyone right now. God help us.
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]
