  • I noticed "Patricius" on IA has right under his name, the tongue-in-cheek moniker, "EvilTrad (tm)"

That's probably because QuisUtDeus, the co-owner of Fisheaters at the time, had already taken "BadTrad (tm)"

Why is it part of running a successful traditional Catholic forum of a certain size to take on self-deprecating, tongue-in-cheek nicknames that cast slurs on your faithfulness to Catholicism/morality/whatever?

This isn't about humility, it's about being half-proud of being mediocre or not living up to common expectations of what it means to be trad. It's about taking BAD or EVIL as part of your personal identity, or schtik.

    Why?

  • It's a crude attempt to get feminine approval, since women are attracted to "naughtiness."  (i.e. evil) Especially liberal-minded naughtiness.

  • Bishop Fellay's kicking people out right and left is sadly part of his appeal to the feminine minded.

  • It may simply be a tasteless joke.  I agree that it looks bad, though.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • It probably has nothing more to do then to poke fun at neo-cats who consider anything post-Vatican II as wonderful and anyone who thinks that the Church went off the rails after Vatican II as a schismatic. I think you guys are reading too far into this.

I think Tele even outdid himself being able to showhorn his obsession with anything perceived as feminism into a simple tongue-in-cheek moniker which probably has nothing to do with being a "bad boy" to attract the ladies.

    Give me a break.

  • the whole love of "memes" and the "ironic" poses so common today show a tendency towards a lack of moral earnestness.

I put "ironic" in quotes because there's not much of a gap between calling yourself "evil" ironically and actually boasting of being bad.

There's a constant among those who mock the Faithful, and that's to dress themselves as caricatures of the devil "ironically."

And yes, when push comes to shove it's about impressing women who think such displays are "clever"

That's why FE is the way it is.  It's all about who wins the approval of the female posters and the chief of their coven, Vox.

It took St. John Vianney ten whole years to renew Ars, but the community changed so noticeably and to such an extent that it was observed even by outsiders.  There was no more working on Sundays, the church was filled more and more every year, and drunkenness fell off.  In the end the taverns had to close their doors since they had no more customers; and even domestic squabbles abated.  Honesty became the principal characteristic

The influence of St. John Vianney brings about the complete opposite of neotrad behavior and beliefs.

     :laugh1:

Just looking at the men over there Vox is least likely to ban, it becomes apparent that she likes the emasculated type. Which is ironic, considering she always says she loves masculinity.

He'd be accused of being a puritan over there.
