  • So I'm driving down the road with my husband for a late-night trip because we ran out of water, and there's this off ramp from the highway and there's a set of lights there.

The lights were solid green for us, and, hey, it's green, so I'm heading towards the intersection.

All of a sudden, I see this oversized load truck coming barrelling down the off ramp of the highway, and he RUNS THE RED LIGHT at no less than 45 mph right in front of us.

I felt the blood drain from my face. Right after this happened, my husband and I were talking about how we wouldn't have even known what hit us and we would have been totally DEAD if that guy had hit us with however heavy that load was. It was big.

Then I realized shortly after this happened, that I had the Saint Joseph prayer in my purse that I carry with me. On the card I have, it says this:

Whoever reads this prayer or hears it or carries it, will never die a sudden death, nor be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, nor be burned in any fire, nor shall they be overpowered in battle.

    Thank you, Saint Joseph.

  • Happy to know you are alive and well, one never knows if this is day we will meet our Judge.

So, are you still pregnant, no baby Ruth yet?

BTW,  I may be all wrong on this, but I always thought that the "sudden death" meant a death that the person was not ready for, meaning they were not in the state of grace.  If a person was in the state of grace, a quick death would be okay, with me.   Now as I said, maybe I got this all wrong and the promise is what it say, "sudden death" period.

    Am I totally wrong?
    Please pray for my soul.

  • That's an interesting question. I always assumed that a sudden death meant just that: You died suddenly with no preparation.

Believe me, I don't want a protracted death either, but I want one I am prepared for should it be.

  • I've been so jumpy and afraid of death lately that when there was some turbulence on my flight back to Canada last night, I thought I would die. That's how startled I was. There was a large thud and the plane began to descend dramatically and within a time span of 2 seconds it felt like I the plane was going to crash. Luckily we didn't but man.. Luckily the seatbelt symbol was on because I'm sure anyone standing up would have been thrown around like a ragdoll. Just looking outside at the wing and seeing it flap like a piece of paper in the wind is daunting..

Even the little things get you thinking about how you can perish. We shouldn't take this life for granted...
For those who I have unjustly offended, please forgive me. Please disregard my posts where I lacked charity and you will see that I am actually a very nice person. Disregard my opinions on "NFP", "Baptism of Desire/Blood" and the changes made to the sacra

  • Daequs,  I assume you are in the State of Grace, so you shouldn't be afraid of death per se, however God gave all of us this instinct to survive, and that kicks in when something like what you described happens.  I don't think that this means you are afraid of death.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Missed that before, Myrna. Yeah, Ruth still wants to stay in there for some reason. She's just going to come when she feels like it.

I begged God that He would just allow her to be baptized, and whatever happened after that, if He wanted her, I would accept it, even if it would be painful to see her go if that was God's will.

So after what happened last night, I know He listened to me, because I would have been a pancake, along with her, had I been any closer to that big rig that ran the red light.

  • Parents for truth,  God has His plan for you, and it is a good one.
Yet, He wants to remind us all from time to time, that this life is like a candle, and so easily can it go out.

I am sure your baby is fine, just too comfortable inside there, after all who wants to come out into this world when everything is crashing all around us.  Your little saint will be baptized soon.  Another soul for God.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Saint Joseph has also saved me from a car accident. This car skidded uncontrollably in front of me while I was reciting the Saint Joseph Novena prayer and would have hit me had she lost control a few seconds sooner.

Saint Joseph's prayer is one of the most powerful prayers out there.

In regards to being a responsible man, would it be interesting to learn, after six years of accuмulating all the wisdom you could, that you had it right all alon

  • glad you okay pft!

i have had close calls with getting run over by cars, but entirely due to my being at fault. when i was younger i would never walk anywhere in city without my earphones blasting full volume, and more times than i care to count i would be preoccupied with the music and get out of the way of car just in nick of time. i was a real hazard to myself and others.

St.Joseph didn't just save my life, but the lives of my family also when we had a wreck that totaled the car and should have killed us. The people who stopped to help us were shocked to see anyone emerge from the car, and even more stunned to discover that nobody died.

Lucky me, it had to happen on the day that I didn't say the prayer that morning. It's a good thing I carry a Pieta book that has the prayer in it everywhere I go because I was ripe for hell that day and I didn't have time to say a complete act of contrition, just simply ask St.Joseph (briefly) to save me. Obviously he did.

  • Before I became a Traditional Catholic I was driving for work one day when it finally dawned on me that I should thank God for protecting me during all these miles I drive for work.. Shortly after that a car pulled out in front of me and I narrowly avoided it.

    LESSON LEARNED!
