All Souls Day Question

  • I have a question for people who attend the Novus Ordo.  I'm really curious and I'm not trying to denegrate anyone.

I've been to a few Novus Ordo funerals and the celebrant has always worn white vestments.

So I'm wondering what color vestments do celebrants wear in the Novus Ordo for the All Souls Day service.  According to the USCCB, the liturgical color for today is "violet or white or black".
(See the USCCB liturgical calendar at
    http://www.usccb.org/about/divine-worship/liturgical-calendar/upload/2020cal.pdf).

Anyone attend a Novus Ordo today, All Souls Day?  What color vestments did the celebrant wear?

  • I feel like anyone here who did attend an NO probably wouldn't say so publically.

I mean, if I did, I would, because I wouldn't care, and I didn't (I'm ByzCat and its not a holy day of obligation in the Eastern Rite).

But I don't think really anyone here is going to openly say they went to the NO, given how much flack they would receive.

I don't think it is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Latin Rite either, so I doubt that even poche went to the NO today (the "vigil" tonight would be the Sunday mass).
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

Poche would probably not straight up say that he went, he'd probably just say something like "Bishop Williamson said you can go to the NO" or something

  • Back 17 years ago when I was still Novus Ordo the Priest wore white on All Souls' Day. They also wore white at funerals.

  • I went to Novus Ordo masses for All Saints and All Souls days, at two different parishes, and I chose them because they worked with the tie I had on those days. At the local church, the All Saints Day priest was wearing white. At the basilica, the All Souls Day priest was wearing green. I am going to try harder to get to only the Latin Masses at my new parish, but time is a big factor right now.
And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

The priest wore white. After the mass we went to the cemetery and prayed the rosary for the poor souls. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
