If all sides could at least momentarily put down the axes they are grinding and extend a hand of charity, perhaps we could actually get somewhere, and Our Lord would then begin through us to thwart the devil's divide-and-conquer tactics.
That is very true... although it is still important to stand by our beliefs, even if it goes badly for us. That is something we learnt from the apostles and the early martyrs,
who were kind and generous to those who were not quite enlightened. At a time when they could have gained wealth and popularity if they just superficially surrendered their beliefs, they remained stalwart.
And of course, they did not hide from the world - the most important thing which I think all Traditional Catholics need to learn. We must live and work in the world if we are to bring people back to the fold. And we must not judge non-Catholics and persecute them... especially since so many of them have not enjoyed the same privileges which we have. If they see you have an active faith, are normal Americans (or whatever), attend an open-to-the-public church regularly - That is how we can prove to the world we are not cultists. And that is how we can encourage them to come back to church.
I have a friend out in California who generally goes to the indult mass where she and her husband live. I began corresponding with her a few years back and we got to be pretty good friends before the religion topic came up.
There are people out there like my friend who want Rome to bring back the traditional mass. And they desperately want the traditional mass - but they are turned off by the anti-social attitudes of people at the various traditional chapels they tried out.
My friend would probably regularly attend a SSPX church (she loves Ratzinger), except she believes that women should attend college and pursue careers, if that is what they are called to do. While she doesn't condemn women who choose to be housewives, she simply doesn't want people to condemn women who want to become CEO's and run businesses.
Anyway -
Matthew, I clicked onto the site for the first time in a while. I was a bit startled to see a few attacks on sedevacantists, urging you to ban anyone who holds that opinion.
I'm glad you haven't done that so far and I hope you don't. You have a good community here and I do enjoy reading from time to time.
Thank you for hosting this site. :)
