  • Edit:   Here is one of the bar owners, Tom Rivers, with a smug and irrepressible grin on his face in a recent article in a local Baltimore paper. As of yet he hasn't said he will open up a Simonbar Schul and call it Mad Dog 20/20.

It's been interesting that despite the prima faciae hate speech being directed against the Catholic Church that it continues

  • I am not sure he is doing anything illegal.  Vile blasphemous, and despicable, surely, but not against the law.  The only way to deal with this is to generate a lot of bad press resulting in a loss of business for this slug.  On site protests mights help too.  This is exactly what Jєωs would do if he opened "Mad Do 2020", and they would be right in that case.

Sadly, the people who will avoid the place after bad press or protests are probably avoiding it now.  I cannot imagine any decent person of any religion not walking out as soon as they saw what sort of place it is and never coming back.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Amazingly, at least according to the owner (who's not particularly credible or honest inmho) ,  no one has said anything about this until now.

Apparently, priests and bishops present themselves to eat there, and we've requested for names or at least endorsements from the priests and bishops in question and none are forthcoming.

Feel free to contact the owner and e-mail him.

Despite having a custmer complaint where he used the n-word, there isn't much bad press for this man, although he doesn't hesitate to insult people who don't agree with him in the nastiest and most vulgar of ways.

We've already had one on sight rosary in reparation for this non-sense.  There will be more.

Also, it would be nice if the Diocese said something, but you know how that goes.

  • Gee, wonder why he didn't open up a bar that made fun of Islam and Muhammad?

How many days would it have survived until it was burned to the ground? How many days would HE have survived?

Today's milktoast Christians are too tolerant. I’m not openly suggesting a Molotov cocktail be thrown through the window, but the fact that he has had so little resistance to his open blasphemy is disgusting.

  • Augustine Baker,

I don't know why I am surprised at the lack of response by the diocese, but I am.  Bishops have had fits over the HHS mandate, as  they should, but it seems to me that this is much worse.  This involves direct sacrilege. If this isn't bad enough to move even the most indolent and complacent bishop to action, what is?

I have mentioned  elsewhere on this forum a business associate of mine.  He is a liberal Democrat, gαy, and an ex-Catholic who is now a Unitarian.  Obviously, we agree on almost nothing.  He is sort of my go to guy when I want to understand people who see the world the way he does.  I sent him the link about this and asked him what he thought.  I expected an email response, but he was so annoyed he called me.  This is, to the best of my ability to reconstruct it a day later, his response.

"I think I would have noticed the name of the place and never gone in.  Assuming that I missed this somehow.  I would have refused to buy anything and left as soon as I realized their pathetic excuse for decorations.  I would have told the manager why, and sent an email to everyone I knew telling them about this place and encouraging them to express their disapproval.  I am pretty easily annoyed politically, and do stuff like this all the time.  Usually it is in a liberal direction, but fair is fair.  A good liberal should be offended and any insult offered to anyone because of their religion anyway.  Like you said what he is doing is not illegal, but that is no reason not to protest."

If a liberal gαy apostate is offended by this, how can Catholics not be outraged?

As Mysterium Fidei points out. there would have been a very different response from Muslims if such abuse had been directed at them.  I mentioned above that Jєωs would not put up with this either.  The difference, I guess, is that Jєωs and Muslims would have rabbis and imams who would have the intestinal fortitude to actually take action.  Apparently, we don't have such men leading our Church, at least not in Baltimore.

But isn't Christianity all about " tolerance"?

Christians aren't supposed to raise their voice or defend their faith in any kind of retaliatory or aggressive form, that would be most uncharitable. We should just be quiet and pray for those who blaspheme our Lord's Mother.

Surely Jesus never became loud or violent if someone offended his mother.

Unfortunately that is because of the liberalism that has infected Christianity and made Christians a bunch of cowards. Many of today's Christians would be like Judas selling Christ out for 30 pieces of silver. When Christ talked about "turning the other cheek" he was talking about offenses against us not Him. I tell you liberalism and neoconservatism were the most god-awful political philosophies ever put upon Western Man.

(Speaking of which didn't Christ use a whip to drive the money-changers from the temple?)

Right, also according to Christianity, Christ was also God.

And from what I've read in the O.T., Jehovah wasn't really big on people who offended him, much less his earthly mother I would assume.

And in the Old Testament if you blaspheme God you are to be put to death. If you rape, sodomize, murder, kidnap, worship other gods, etc. you are also to be put to death.

Well, we have the example of our wonderful post Vatican II "Popes" to go by: you know, kissing Korans, praying with Muslims in Mosques, with Jєωs in ѕуηαgσgυєs, with Protestants. Having your forehead smeared with elephant dung and drinking potions from Polynesian witch doctors or voodoo snake charmers.

You know they're all the people of God, each on their own path and all that rot.

We must tolerant of the beliefs of others. Why even now the Traditionalists are getting ready to have their very own side chapel under the big tent Counciliar religion of diversity thanks to the Judas Fellay.
