I do hope no one here is dependent on air travel.

In a few years (maybe two) I'm moving my family to one of the pacific islands.  I don't want to think what the cost will be. But I hope there will still be airlines plying that route.   It's a long way by dinghy or raft.

I live about 1,300 miles from my family, but I already seldom fly.

I've only flown on 1 trip in the last 3 years, and there likely won't be any more. I already have one child, and that makes plane travel much more expensive.

Plus I don't have to limit my homecoming vacations to 1 week -- my wife doesn't work, and I can work on my vacations (I'm a computer programmer) so I can take a 2 week vacation, as long as I work during it, and bring my PC. All that is hard with air travel.

Nevermind all the ridiculous security at the airports now

They are not worried, as they know the US taxpayer will bail them out - as they are doing at present for several of them.  No one will put it this way, of course.  It will just lead, eventually, to the formal nationalization of the airlines (which is already true de facto in some cases).
