  • I feel sorry for anyone who can't appreciate the sage, prudent advice the good Bishop is passing along to us.

    Old-Fashioned Advice

    Eleison Comments XLV

A priestly colleague of the Society of St. Pius X in the United States who judges, as I do, that it is not outside our duties to watch the unfolding of the dramatic crisis now engulfing the world's entire financial structure, as put in place after World War II, gave me last month a copy of a series of practical points of advice which he hands out to his threatened flock. Let them be shared with readers of "Eleison Comments".

Since the situation is grave enough for panic to emerge as a possible temptation, he begins with an important principle: "Do not panic, but use prudence", ie realistic good sense as to what is not only desirable but also practicable . He continues with seven points on the handling of HOME FINANCES :

    - Stay out of debt, or, at least go into no more debt.
    - Pay off credit cards.
    - If you cannot pay for it with cash, do not buy it.
    - Pay off the car. Buy a used car with cash, if that is what it will take to get rid of heavy monthly payments.
    - If you are in an adjustable rate mortgage, get out of it fast, and change to a fixed rate mortgage. The latter may be more expensive, but it is certainly less risky. On any monthly mortgage payment, always pay down more against the principal, if possible. Better still, pay off the entire mortgage with the bank, if you can, by borrowing from a relative, but make a mortgage with the relative, so that it remains tax deductible.
    - Consider down-sizing your home if that is what it will take to get rid of the bank mortgage.
    - If you have savings, hold gold and silver.

As to HOME LOCATION, my colleague continues: "You should consider moving if you live in a big city. If the dollar goes bust, the State will be unable to make welfare payments, and neighborhoods and even suburbs will become much more dangerous places."
Finally, as to the MEDIA (firmly in the hands of the enemies of true order), he makes three precious points:

    - Do not believe what the media tell you.
    - Axe the television set, prime poisoner of people's minds.
    - Forget the big newspapers and "conservative" talk radio.
To this excellent old-fashioned advice, but which it may or may not still be possible to put into practice, let me myself add one point, which can always be put into practice: if the family is not yet praying the daily Rosary, start tonight ! Kyrie eleison.

  • If only all Catholics (even all Traditional Catholics) would follow this advice to the letter... there would be much less needless suffering in the future.

But alas, I'm sure many will follow the foolish path instead, and will get brainwashed by Fox News, keep their money in the banks, and in general not take "drastic" enough measures to prepare themselves well for what is to come.

  • I will do my best to follow this. I only watch the news channels for weather and to get a good chuckle at the false marching orders they hand out to the masses.

  • I disagree with the emphasis on staying out of debt, as this ship will take down all - debt free or not - when it goes to the bottom.  I actually advocate using CCs, if you need to, in order to get the basics (food, especially).  I say use the instruments of these men to acquire necessities for your family - before it is too late, and the only way to get them is to do as they want.  When the troops come to your door, they will not look at your finances, debt status, or credit score.

  • I had to run before, but I am not saying "Load up the debt, baby."

However, being debt-free will mean little to nothing when this storm is going full force.  For example, housing might very well be nationalized, making it irrelevant whether you have debt or are paid off for years.  If it is martial law, as I believe it will be, debt issues will be irrelevant, too.  The bottom line will be this: do you have what you NEED - already in your possession.  If you do not, you will likely be hard-pressed, or simply unable, to get it.  All laws will be suspended, and so will concerns about an unpaid credit card.  It is like the sinking Titanic.  When it was plain that it was time to get off, no one worried about settling their open bar tabs first!

  • I am bumping this because I would like to know if anyone disagrees with my analysis.  As the whole bloomin' world is in massive debt, debt alone is not going to matter when the 'zero hour' arrives.  We may go to prison for being 'extremist', or some other poppycock, but not merely for debt.

Time is SHORT, and we shall soon be UNABLE to get necessary items.  If you must go into debt to get these items, I say GO INTO DEBT.  Just make sure it is a "manageable" debt that you can deal with for at least 3-6 months; i.e., don't dig yourself a hole that causes you to lose your home, etc.

  • Agreed. And, my grandmother and I are stocking up on as many extras as we can each week. This week I am going for more first-aid type items and gallons of water. They did make announcement today that the housing collapse is stage one, credit of course stage two and that when they said not to worry this would be over in no time, they mispoke and we should worry. DUH!!!!
