  • hypothetical situaton,
    ==============

a teen is on his porch enjoying the fresh air when a pretty young lady passes by. He gets turned on. He has no desire to do sex with her but he looks at her to enjoy the good feeling.

Did he commit a sin?   If so, why?

Is lust the desire to do sex with someone? in this case he does not desire to do sex with the lady.

  • Dear tradlover-

First of all, I would recommend you have a little more tact on how you describe your sensual arousal. If you do not know what this means, please do not post here; go talk with your priest.

Next, if a young man sees a beautiful woman/girl, there is nothing wrong with this. If he is sensually aroused, however, he should definitely be careful, as it is quite common and natural for him to next have sensual images conjured up in his mind's eye (ie: he will start thinking some sort of sexual (adulterous) thought).

Remember, Our Lord, in perfecting the old law, said: "But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart."  Fr. Haydock (from the Haydock version of the Douay-Rheims bible) said in his commentary on these verses, "Jesus Christ here perfects the old law, which makes no mention of the acts of the mind and will. (Menochius) ... Whatever is an immediate occasion of sin, however near or dear it may be, must be abandoned (Menochius), though it prove as dear to us, or as necessary as a hand, or an eye, and without delay or demur. (Haydock)"

So, then, you should be careful on how you look and think of women and girls. Its perfectly natural to be attraced to them, but be careful in letting your mind wander into what is against Our Lord's law, okay?

  • I agree -- I edited the original post to be less vulgar.

I think we can keep things dignified here, even while discussing such temptations.

  • Yes, I think some of the younger ones have been conditioned (sex ed./TV/movies) to think open discussions about such things are the norm. This is very, very different from what the atmosphere was in the first half of the last century.  Such things were never brought up in public.  A mention on TV, or too much information would usually cause the younger ones to blush and look away.  Now, no information is too much.

This change was greatly assisted by those in society who wanted to wreck the Kingdom that was to come.  But like fish don't recognize the water they are in, the brain-washed do not see they've fallen right in with the master plan of evil.

I've seen several examples of this here and would urge that those who are curious but inexperienced try first to talk to a traditional priest to get the explanations they need.  Now I say this with some misgivings because of what has transpired since Vat. II.  We live in age where one must be careful.  So, I can understand how someone could seek public means of sound advice when there is little else left.

If one does not have access to a sound priest, I might suggest going to one of the standard, pre-VatII, moral theology manuals. They usually have a complete and clearly stated commentary on right and wrong.

Stay safe out there, and we should all pray for each other that we might avoid the silly discourses of Satan.

  • Thinking, "What a beautiful woman!" as one might think, "What a beautiful cathedral!" is certainly not a sin.  I would also think that the spontaneous feeling of attraction, even if it is sexual, is not sinful.  Dwelling on it is.

  • Perhaps the two people who seem to have nothing better to do than follow me around the threads to dislike my posts, no matter how innocuous, could point our where I am in error in the statement above.  You know, charitably offer fraternal correction rather than hiding behind the click of a mouse.

  • Seriously- it should be a rule- if you 'thumbs down' someone, it take you to a comment screen to justify it.

  • Indeed it should.  Since I have received only one dislike above, perhaps the other thumbs downer was properly shamed.
