  • But why does Msgr. Fellay put the SSPX in harm's way of the "violent" pope ?

The Pope's outstretched hand to the Fraternity of St. Pius X
Against the evidence, there is little to argue. The outstretched hand of Pope Bergoglio to the Fraternity of St. Pius X is the same that falls these days on the Order of Malta and the Franciscans of the Immaculate. The case of the Order of Malta ended with the unconditional surrender of the Grand Master and the return to power of Albrecht von Boeslager and the powerful German faction he represents.
Riccardo Cascioli, on La Nuova Bussola quotidiana, summed up the facts in these terms: "  the person responsible for the moral drift of the Order was rehabilitated and who sought to arrest him was sent home ." And this in total disregard of the sovereignty of the order, as is clear from the letter of January 25 addressed to the members of the Sovereign Council by the Secretary of State Pietro Parolin in the name of the Holy Father, by which the Holy See has in fact placed the Order under commission. It would be logical for the hundred or so states which maintain diplomatic relations with the Order of Malta to withdraw their ambassadors, since reports can be made directly with the Vatican, whose order is now totally dependent.
The contempt of the law of Pope Francis goes from international law to Italian civil law. A decree issued by the Congregation of Religious with the agreement of the Pope, imposes on Father Stefano Maria Manelli, superior of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, not to communicate with the media, nor to appear in public; not to take part in any initiative or meeting of any kind whatsoever, and especially " to deliver, within 15 days from the date of this decree, the economic patrimony managed by the civil associations and any other sum to its available, in the full availability of each institute ",that is to say, to transfer to the Congregation of Religious patrimonial goods which Father Manelli does not have, as confirmed by the Avellino Revision Committee, because they belong to associations legally recognized by the Italian state.
"In 2017, in the Church of Mercy," commented Marco Tosatti, "the estrapades and the iron mask are missing, and the catalog is complete".
As if that were not enough, Archbishop Arguelles, Archbishop of Lipa in the Philippines, was informed of his own resignation by a statement from the Vatican Press Room. We do not know the reasons for such a measure, but we can guess: Bishop Arguelles canonically recognized an association that brings together a group of ex-seminarians of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, who abandoned their order to study and prepare for priesthood in complete freedom and independence. This would be a fault, it seems, unforgivable.
One comes to wonder if Pope Francis is not a violent pope, understanding the meaning of this term. Violence is not the force exerted in a bloody way, but the force that one applies in an illegitimate way, in defiance of the right, in order to reach the goal which one has fixed.
The desire of Bishop Bernard Fellay to regularize the canonical position of the Fraternite Saint Pius X by an agreement that does not in any way damage the identity of his institute, is certainly appreciable, but we come to wonder: is it appropriate to go under the legal direction of Rome, precisely at the moment when the law is ignored or even goes to be used as a means of repression of who wants to remain faithful to the Catholic faith and morality?
(Roberto de Mattei 10 FEB 2017)

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • I met one of these ex seminarians of the FFI.  He walked all of the california missions by foot in his FFI habit, and I met him when he came through my town for the day.  He did not use a car to get from one mission to the next.  He slept in the bushes and in church rectories where he was welcome.  He was turned away by many rectories.  He was scheduled to be ordained a deacon soon before francis struck down the order.  And, It sounds as though he was not alone.
