  • to Barry Sadler and my five military; one no longer in the military veteran of desert storm, Jan; one ex-navy currently national guard verteran of Bosnia and Iraq, Jamie; one ex national guard, ex army and currently civilian serving in Afghanistan, Jody; and one army and on his third tour to Iraq, Damien; and my youngest currently airforce, Marsya.  Jamie and Marsya will be deployed in about a year.

I only have two who have never been military, have never known the horror of war.  But here's to them, too---they survived husbands and children.

  • I should have mentioned I had a bit of an alarm about Jody, which prompted me to post this.  So I'm really, really grateful for the prayers.  I also forgot to say that Jody is a veteran of Iraq too.  But he's been so many places I've lost track.

Barry Sadler bought the bullet in 88 doing in Guatamala what Jody is doing in Afghanistan---that is, procuring supplies for the military.  Kind of a salesman job.  When that song came out in 66 my brother was an MP in Nam and I married a sailor who helped sweep the beaches over there.  So I was pro-military even then when so many were not.  Since then I've become anti-government but remain pro-military.  No matter---NO MATTER---what those crooked politicians do, our men and women are not guilty of it.  What they do takes backbone---if it's only getting out of bed in boot camp every morning.  I can't imagine what they go through  being under water for 6 months at a stretch as Jamie was---or being shot at as Damien was.  I think it is a terrible thing to NOT appreciate their sacrifices.

  • Trinity, my son is currently also in Afghanistan, he just posted this pic of himself on his facebook.  He is being funny here, and squinting from the sun, he titled this picture:   First there was Lawrence of Arabia, now there is Alan of Afghanistan.

He has 19 years in the Army so far, and is a Major, he is single and looking for a Catholic wife, I doubt he will find any in Afghanistan.  He also was in Iraq a couple of times, in fact he flew there the very day everything broke out, he told me the bombs were dropping and they had to land the plane in Turkey till everything calmed down.

It is so scary being a mother and having a son in the Military, he is my youngest but my tallest child, 6'5", he makes a great target, something I fear.

Pray for him, as I will pray for yours.

    Please pray for my soul.

  • Sounds like he's a lifer,Myrna.  All the  countries he must have been in, he can't be looking too hard for a wife.  But then, real Catholics are hard to find.  He is in my prayers now.
