  • I don't fault the writer for trying.  But she ought to keep her day job.

There's a lot more to restoration than putting up a new tabernacle.

Plus, it's supposed to have a veil covering it.  Duuuh.

Any parish that tries this stunt shouldn't be surprised if it gets
vandalized right away.  There is a lot more to it than just this.

  • Now, I enjoy a good laugh as much as the next guy but it seems to me this is
WAY over the top.  Mahony is from my neighborhood.  We go way back.  And
I do not appreciate seeing headlines that even PRETEND that he's the next
    customer in line like this:

    Report: Mahony’s Pretty Much

Got This Pope Thing In The Bag

.............“The only question that remains is what name he shall take.”................

VATICAN CITY–The Italian Newspaper La Rupubblica is reporting today that a member of the Vatican Curia confirmed to them that, barring a shocking upset, the former head of the Los Angeles Diocese Cardinal Roger Mahony has all but locked up his spot as the Catholic Church’s 266th Bishop of Rome.

“An anonymous member of the Curia has revealed to us that the gαy lobby working within the Vatican is now lobbying for Cardinal Mahony to succeed Benedict. They believe he is best suited for the job,” a reporter for La Repubblica, Luigi Rossi, told reporters. “When we asked the Curia member how they were progressing, he told us that ‘Mahony’s pretty much got this Pope thing in the bag,’ and that the only question that remained was what name he would be taking.

Members of the Curia unanimously believe that Mahony can fix the mess in the Church just as he did the mess in Los Angeles. Basically, if he runs things just the same as he ran things in the L.A. diocese, as well as the way he ran his annual Los Angeles Religious Congress, the Church should be just fine…like the Episcopalians. At press time Mahony has sent a message to his twitter followers reading, “Yup, got this Pope thing on lock #JP3WeLoveThee?"

I have only one positive thing to say about this.  They spelled Mahony correctly.

Other than that, frankly, it turns my stomach.  You should have been in LA with
this guy running around loose.  I wouldn't wish that on an enemy, much less the
    whole world..........

It seems to me that this kind of NONSENSE is what gives the Resistance a bad
name.  Someone is trying to be funny and all it does is look like the Resistance
is full of a bunch of loony bin rejects.

This is not funny, and I am not afraid to say so.

Whoever is running this thing ought to be taken out to the woodshed and taught
    a lesson.

Not only is the whole thing lacking in humor, it is chock full of objective errors.

It looks like a news page, so anyone just happening in on it might think that
this is some kind of report -- it says "Report" at the top of the page, so it's not
a report?  But it says it is.  So, at best it is a lie, and it's probably worse, a
calumny, and therefore it should qualify as slander, libel and malicious
    detraction.

What good could ever come of that?  This clown is out of control.  She is groping
at straws to put up something she thinks is funny and it isn't.  It's just bad.

    Please don't pass it around.

    You are spreading scandal.

If this is what the True Faith does to people,

who would want to have any part of it????????

At the risk of repeating myself, I guess I have to repeat myself.

I like to hear and tell jokes as much as you do, but I prefer them to be funny,
not stupid!  This website has post after post that pretends to be what it is not.

This one says "REPORT.... VATICAN CITY"   ------- it's not a report

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica is reporting today -------- News flash:
there is such a newspaper, La Repubblica.it - Homepage, and it makes no such
report.  Therefore this is libel, and the newspaper SHOULD SUE FOR IT.

There are no members of the Vatican Curia confirming to anyone about anything,
because they're all bound to turn in their resignation when the Pope leaves office.
    More lies. More lawsuits.

Cardinal Roger Mahony was not the "head of the Los Angeles Diocese."  Fabrication
and inaccuracy.  Roger Cardinal Mahony was the Archbishop of the Archdiocese.

No "anonymous member of the Curia" would be revealing anything to anyone in
this situation, and it gives the uninformed the wrong idea to say as much.

Luigi Rossi is apparently a real person associated with La Repubblica in Italy, so
if I were him, I would be contacting my lawyer right about now.
    ......&c., &c., &c............

If you don't think this whole thing stinks, I don't know what I can tell you that
will make any difference.  I guess the Resistance is just a big joke; right here
    is proof.

  • And um, Neil....
The first joke that I posted might have been badly written, but man, you need some happiness in your life. Sorry to say, but your response kinda sounds ultra-rigorist. OF COURSE we know there is more to restoration than just putting in a tabernacle... Duh!!!!

    It was a JOKE!

And the stuff about Mahony... Left field anyone?! That had NOTHING to do with the thread! Sorry... Maybe I am just up too late and confused... Maybe make your own thread about how much you dislike him and people who write about him?

No offense! Why don't you try posting something funny sometime... EVEN if it is not exact!!

    Sheesh.....

Dear mich-ben,  I do not shortchange you for trying to share a funny story.

And I was going to just let it go, but then I looked around on the website you
    linked, Eye of the Tiber,

..which is where the tabernacle story is posted and quoted from (in case you
didn't know that) and I went from "so what" to "oh no" to "EEEEEKKKK!"

The one that did me in was the Mahony piece.  Anyone with their head screwed
on straight would know this is an attempt at humor, but it is not even
careful to avoid accusations.  It uses real names of real people and plasters
objective LIES about them all over the Internet.

Are you unaware of the reputation the Resistance has to fight against for
promoting "Internet rumors?"  This IS WHERE THEY COME FROM.  Any website
that puts out blatant lies is creating this, at least this reputation.

Am I the only one who is bombarded with contempt for quoting a website to
inform someone and they say "You can't believe anything you see if it comes
from the Internet?"  That's what I'm talking about.  This Eye of the Tiber is
    wall-to-wall ANTI-information.  And it's just SICK.  It's not funny.  I showed
my daughter this page on Mahony and she didn't want to hear the third
sentence.  She said "If this is where you're getting your news it's no wonder -
what's wrong with these people?"  And walked away.  So my own credibility
with my own daughter suffers and all I did was share three sentences that
I presented as GARBAGE AND NONSENSE.  Even that looks stupid.

  • Okay, here is a comic from another site that runs this Mahony "Report from the
Vatican" and has comments on it - including,  "Why would you say this about a
Cardinal in your church? Sure, he’s a scandal... but he is a tolerated scoundrel
    who still is a Cardinal."

I almost understand what you've been saying, but remember even Dante's "Divine Comedy" went on to portray especially sinful popes as being in hell...

Why don't you share something humorous that you like?  Then everyone will see that it's just the one topic that bothers you-- right?

  • Sigh....

(Doggedly) I will make sure from henceforth NOT to post anything UNLESS I scour the source where it came from. EVEN JOKES.
I don't want to be undermining The Resistance by posting a joke from a site that I did not investigate thoroughly.

I understand what you are saying, Neil......OK, they stink. My bad. I am on my way to the guillotine

Maybe it's just me.  I'm not accusing you of any "sin!"  It's just that I cannot
bring myself to enjoy any 'jokes' at the expense of any tabernacle, because it
is indirectly a joke against the Blessed Sacrament.  Are you aware that the
Jack-in-the-Box was originally a tongue-in-cheek joke about the 'ridiculous'
belief of Catholics in the Real Presence?  As Bishop Williamson expounds in
his Feb. 26th conference in Post Falls, the Gospel of John, the end of Chapter
6, tells of how all of Our Lord's followers abandoned Him when he spoke of
faith in the Blessed Sacrament.  That is where Protestantism is rooted, BTW.

But I dare say, if Bishop Williamson were to comment on this 'joke' link you
have posted, I can't imagine he would give any hint of enjoying a laugh.
So I don't think I am being eccentric or unreasonable.  The faith of Catholics
is too much misunderstood and derided by those outside the Church, that they
don't need to see our complicity with their vile 'humor' to make them feel
better about what they do in persecuting us.

For me, under the avalanche of heresy and abuses Mahony left behind him,
there is nothing funny about a tabernacle.  I have personally seen far too
many smashed tabernacles.  I have personally seen far too many exiled
tabernacles.  I have personally seen too many disrespected tabernacles.  I
have personally seen too many contemptuous onlookers making JOKES
    about tabernacles.

IT IS OVER.  I will not engage, God help me, in any jokes about tabernacles.

I don't care what they are, they are NOT FUNNY.

So, maybe it's just me.  But I am not on board that train.  Sorry.
