  • So I am curious, what is "the day in the life" of a typical Traditional Catholic?

I would like to hear from all walks of life...parent at home to married without children to working people.  Do you fit Mass in daily?  What about other prayer times, etc....
What do you do for fun?
Do you watch any TV at all?  How much internet time, etc....

I have a lot of problems that make it very very difficult for me to adhere to a schedule but even if I could do a little bit..........

thanks, DM   (a "regular" Catholic trying to learn about my roots!!)

  • Try to wake up

    Go to Mass

    Go to work

    Have some lunch

Punch out a threatening blaspheming queer at the gas station.

    Leave work

Go to shooting range and meet friends

Go home and have some dinner & beer

    Check out Catholic info

    Say me final prayers

    Go to sleep

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

Be careful posting assaults online. That can be used against you in a court of law.

  • As I get out of bed between 6 and 6.30am I say Morning Offering, then join my husband for Morning Prayers (Divine Office) together plus trimmings (Prayer to the Virgin - remedy against the "Spirits of Darkness"). (The cat usually joins us.)

Then we have breakfast, I wash up, he goes for a long walk. When finished washing up, I jump on the computer to read emails, answer as needed, read what he's been reading earlier, check out CathInfo.

He comes home, I hand over the computer and I go in the garden, til it's too hot to keep working or I get too tired.

Of course we always say Grace before we eat, that's thrice a day together. Around 3.30-4pm we say Evening prayer (Divine Office) together.

After dinner in the evening we say the Rosary (5 decades) together. Plus trimmings (Michael the Archangel).

Evenings are for reading, never TV. Don't own one.

I say an extra decade of the Rosary, ever since I spiritually adopted an in-utero child-at-risk-of-being-aborted. Before I go to bed I say a Memorare while gazing at the beautiful icon of Our Lady of Vladimir. Then I shut my eyes and go to sleep.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I don't live close enough to our chapel to be able to go to daily Mass unfortunately.  I pray the rosary plus prayers for special intentions throughout the day.

  • Frances,

Please allow me to compliment you on your prudent use of time. The use of time is something we will all be judged on, and is commonly not only wasted, but used in such a way as to corrupt us and even place us in near occasions of sin. Trashy radio programs, television, motion pictures, contemporary music, and gossipy cell phone use all attest to this. Like you, I found that praying the rosary in the car is a fine alternative. Rarely is there a legit excuse to miss the rosary.

I realize you have a full schedule, but have you considered praying the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary? I found it beneficial in keeping me off of the confessional line. There is a great mystical value in the Psalms. The Little Office takes a hour, less once used to it. If that is too long maybe you could try Prime for morning and compline for evening prayers?

Judging by your posts, I doubt that any of this is new to you so I hope I do not sound like a know-it-all.  It is just nice being able to discuss prayer with other Catholics. My wife and I often feel like we are on an island as none of our friends or family are traditional.

For whatever it is worth, I think the most overlooked prayers are the Stations. So few pray them, even among traditionalists. It is a sad commentary.

  • Generally? I have an atypical schedule where I have to be extremely flexible, but here is a loose order of each day:

    Wake up--everyone
Meal for kids, throw in laundry, dishes
Kids brush teeth, pray, make beds
Teach writing, grammar, spelling and math, say prayers when kids are busy and eat a quick lunch for me and prep dinner
    Snack for kids
Latin, handwriting and prepare to go out outside classes
    Go to outside classes
Finish school work on the road or at home, reading, literature, history, science, geography and religion
    Eat dinner
Free time, which usually doesn't happen
    Rosary and prayer
    Laundry
    Get ready for bed--all
    Go to bed--all

Chores in between everything for all of us

Yes, I sometimes pray Little Office or other devotions on the train.  Jєωs and Muslims do their prayers in the subway, so why don't more Catholics?  The tub is another good place, or parked in  my car awaiting a parking space.  NY is the only place where I regularly pray for a good parking space, also, the only place I've had to go to Confession as a result of driving-related sins.  My hours are such that daily Mass is impossible.  At any rate, the only one near my apt. or work is novus ordo, which I do not consider a Mass.
