They had a chance to be independent of the devil's left arm (the right arm being the United States), and they turned it down.

William Wallace must be turning over in his grave.

All the Scottish people had to do was VOTE and they could have had their own country!
Just goes to show you how widespread stupidity is, as well as how powerful the media and propaganda are.
Perhaps Texas can be next Matthew.

I foresee a vote by the lonestar state to secede from the Union.

Scotland blew their chance.

Would Texas do the same?

I don't know, are most Texans "stupid"? :jester:

George W. Bush sure angered a lot of lefties when during the build up to the Iraq War he quipped, "I was the governor of a state that is bigger than France."

In the U.S., a lot of states would be better off not being part of the collective.  Texas is one of them.

Texas is dependent on the federal government.  It receives $250 billion from the federal government annually, more than any other state except California and equal to 16% of Texas' annual economic output.  Until it finds a way to replace this revenue stream, secession is a pipe dream.

How much does Texas send to the Federal Government in income taxes and other taxes?

The Federal Government can't just give money out of their largesse (which they don't have), so they either get the funds in taxes from others or they borrow it from foreign countries (who also do not have a large surplus of cash on hand so the borrowing is in assets or promises).

In 2013, for every $1.00 Texans paid in federal taxes, they received $1.43 back from the federal government.

How did you arrive at that figure?  I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying that when you go to websites that are run by political hacks, they often leave categories out of their equation.  Also, is this website counting federal money spent on military installations as part of the total?

If you are correct, that means that some other state is paying more than they get.  Government doesn't give anything that it didn't already take from somewhere else.

Federal employees are included in the calculation.  And what you say is true, some states are net-winners when it comes to federal funding in that they get more than they pay (like Texas), and others are net losers in that they pay more than they get.

Maybe I am just trying to put myself in their shoes and I shouldn't be doing that.

Where are we going to send them in the case we decide on another inquisition?

Should we let them live in our countries? They will continue to exploit our weaknesses for the advancement of their agenda if we do.

Should we slay them?

Quote from: Pope St. Pius V

“The Jєωιѕн people fell from the heights because of their faithlessness and condemned their Redeemer to a shameful death. Their godlessness has assumed such forms that, for the salvation of our own people, it becomes necessary to prevent their disease.  Besides usury, through which Jews everywhere have sucked dry the property of impoverished Christians, they are accomplices of thieves and robbers; and the most damaging aspect of the matter is that they allure the unsuspecting through magical incantations, superstition, and witchcraft to the ѕуηαgσgυє of Satan and boast of being able to predict the future.  We have carefully investigated how this revolting sect abuses the name of Christ and how harmful they are to those whose life is threatened by their deceit.  On account of these and other serious matters, and because of the gravity of their crimes which increase day to day more and more, We order that, within 90 days, all Jews in our entire earthly realm of justice - in all towns, districts, and places - must depart these regions. After this time limit shall all at the present or in the future, who dwell or wander into that city or other already mentioned, be affected, their property confiscated and handed over to the Siscus, and they shall becomes slaves of the Roman Church, live in perpetual servitude and the Roman Church shall have the same rights over them as the remaining [worldly] lords over slaves and property.” (Hebraeorum Gens Sola)

Wow. Its a good thing I quit that job at the Home Depot (Jєωιѕн Company) recently. They made me into a slave while working there. I had to get out of there. I found myself starting to lose it. They play all kinds of head games with people in there I think. Especially me.

How should Protestants be treated? The same way? I still believe they are Christians, and I think the slavery of Christians is forbidden by the Church.

. . . I think the slavery of Christians is forbidden by the Church.

What is your basis for saying this?  I have never heard anybody hint at this other than hand-wringing liberal yankees and I have never seen a source of authority clearly backing this up.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading a quote by a Pope. I can't find it off hand though.

The best I can do is this...
"Though these slaves were generally well-treated, and set at liberty if they asked for baptism, this revival of slavery..."

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/14036a.htm

It seems to me that Baptism is what sets us free. Most protestants have a valid Baptism.

That is not an authoritative quote.  It's just pointing out that some slave owners chose to do this.

Furthermore, I don't trust that website to not put a modernist hand-wringing liberal spin on the concept of slavery.
