It is a fact that perverts and effeminates have hijacked the beard and stache, but the interior of a person emanates through the external, thus, it's still probable for a woke, unworldy Catholic to identify who is a real man or a sissy, and who is a Godly man or a reprobate.

As already noted, in Eastern lands a smooth face carries with it the suggestion of effeminacy. A lot of those nationalities are even capable of the "Nicholas Cage" beard, where there's NO natural dead space at all around the lips. The only step above that is to grow hair on the forehead and become a full-on Yeti!

It is literally more effeminate to be clean-shaven. Women can't grow beards (freak shows aside), so being clean-shaven brings a man THAT MUCH CLOSER to looking like a woman.

Isn’t it in the Rule for Capuchins to not shave, ever? I remember hearing a story about how Padre Pio used to joke that he joined the Capuchins because he wanted to grow a beard.
