  • I'm hoping someone could explain "THE PURIFICATION" and like synonyms used in other threads? Any basis for this or just personal opinion (which is okay i'm just curious). I know Gladius uses the term...

  • I will gladly elaborate, but I must attend to other matters now...

In short, the world has grown corrupt and is in dire need of having the filth purged from the system.  I call this process The Purification.

As for the basis, this time of house-cleaning and the end result have been foretold by countless pious people and Saints.

For some years now a number of Catholics and non-Catholics have expressed a sort of intuition that something "big" is bound to happen "soon." These individuals posit economic trends, matters of foreign policy, geological and meteorological factors as substantiations for this intuition, which makes it a hypothesis if there are data that can be gathered and analyzed to back up such an opinion. From what I understand, it may be a total collapse of the societal, economic, political, and cultural constructs that have poisoned human civilization with the perversions of the Marxists, materialists, indifferentists, &c.

Catholics, however, contextualize this with citations from Holy Scripture and the Saints, positing that such a catastrophe is consequent upon the sins of men and nations (as Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima warned) and that the infinite mercy and justice of God will vie for the expiation of sin and the conversion of man simultaneously. Such chastisement is ultimately both expiatory and medicinal.

I recently uploaded a work by Saint Alphonsus regarding calamities, and it may be germane to this topic: http://www.cathinfo.com/catholic.php/Saint-Alphonsus-Nine-Discourses-for-the-Times-of-Calamities

I would like to read the explanation Eamon gives upon this subject, aspects of which he has discussed and mentioned here and there across the forum.
Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.

  • While this single post will not be a complete treatment of the idea or the term Purification, we might a well get started...

For more than 500 years, our society has been slowly but surely heading in the wrong direction.  The seeds of rotten philosophies have germinated into a rather hideous tree that now all but obscures the sun.  We are not only lost, we do not even know where we are going.

ALL elements of life have been completely corrupted: air, soil, water, food, medicine, labor, relationships, education, marriage, economics, politics, and religion.  Pick a topic, it can be easily demonstrated that it has been corrupted.  Why are we in the desert?  V2 corrupted the ONE place that had been holding the line.  Although things had been growing worse for centuries, since the abominable 1960s, things have only gone downhill at an ever-increasing speed.

ALL stands in need of renewal.  It is my contention that we have already entered a perfect storm, if you will, which will result in a complete purification of the system.  Thus, I call it The Purification.  The term is more or less interchangeable with the Chastisement, something foretold by many Saints and pious persons.

My personal belief is that we are about to enter the teeth of the nastiest storm since the Flood, although this storm will be worse in some ways.  Most men now alive will not live to see the other side, and all will see things they cannot presently conceive.

The Age of Materialism is over, but the process of returning to sanity will be extremely painful.  We are still far too attached to way too many created things.  The coming 3 to 24 months (as I see it) will be, in a nutshell, the administering of bitter medicine.  We will not like it, but we need it desperately.

I see V2 as the spiritual Chastisement.  Most of us have learned nothing from it.  As a result, a temporal Chastisement is now necessary.  IMO, it will be similar in magnitude to V2, which is a sobering thought.  Even those who have received the grace to hold fast to the Faith have a very hard time beginning to grasp the magnitude of what transpired when the atom bomb of V2 devastated the entire Catholic world.  We are still reeling from the effects.

Now, we will see temporal, visible, all-too-tangible lessons, all meant to do ONE thing: Bring us back to God.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum.

  • Some Catholics I know reject any ideas about serious trouble, 2012, etc., that come from non-Catholics.  IMO, this is irrational.  It is plain that trouble is on the way; it is here already.  That non-Catholics know about momentous events is nothing new.  The Sibyls told of Our Lord's birth, etc.  We have supernatural and natural reasons to believe things are about to unravel across the board.  We also have good reasons to believe the unraveling will be followed by the Resurrection of Holy Church, which will spread her light and love to all the corners of the presently-dark, loveless earth.

  • Thanks gladius. I know others in person who've mentioned this type of thinking in person to me. I won't say I disagree, not at all, but that for lowly me, its a big bite to jump completely on board to say I am 100% on. I'm sure you would hold it as, opinion, of course, but are you able to cite any scriptural or Catholic references to support your thesis? Not because I'd like to argue, I'd just like to know where you're coming from  :)

  • Very good explanation Eamon.

Throughout the course of my sacred and profane studies, there is a thought that continually keeps appearing before me: the trajectory of the histories of nations and civilizations throughout the ages can be likened to the growth and education of an individual person. This idea has been developed in my mind to the point where I now begin to see a cohesive explanation for what's happening and what's bound to happen in the world, the Church, etc. I think it is somewhat germane to this topic.

For example, a parent observes his son adopting behavioral patterns that are unacceptable. He admonishes him, and even avails himself of mercy and loving-kindness in doing so, and the child refuses to amend his ways. Exercising his paternal primacy, he begins to punish the lad by depriving him of those legitimate things which he enjoys, by giving him arduous tasks to work in the household, etc. The boy refuses to take correction and even neglects the salutary measures that have been promulgated and enforced by his father, for these were not for the good of the father so much for the good of his son, that he may return to himself and ponder upon the direction of his life. Even the mother intervenes, exercising her maternal influence and authority upon the son, and humbly petitioning the father for mercy and time. Mercy and time are given, but the child despises the mother's attempts to correct him and refuses to recognize the rights of his father. The father has no other choice but to inflict upon him a punitive punishment that will make the lad cognizant of the pain that is a consequence and reflection of the disorder he has caused. If the child continues to be obstinate and degenerates into a pertinaciously vicious individual, the father would have no choice but to expel him from the household at the appropriate age. The doors closes, and a world of peril and evil opens before the young man.

So it us with us. The Lord God has continually warned mankind of its iniquities through the Sacred Scriptures, His only-begotten Son together with the Holy Church He established and espoused unto Himself, through His servants [the saints, the Popes, theologians, humble seers of approved apparitions, etc.] and through man's conscience and reason. Yet mankind in our present age has despised these salutary counsels and has even attacked these wondrous means of instruction and salvation. The Lord has deprived us of stability in the Church and society, and has given us the acerbic task of working out our salvation in these conditions. Yet, we still refuse to take correction and to implement the means of salvation and penance. Even Most Holy Mary herself, from her empyreal throne has vouchsafed mankind several visits wherein she tenderly and eagerly calls us to penance, being mindful of the universal maternity given to her by Her dying Son at the foot of the Cross. Yet we still refuse to take correction and amend. What can we expect then but chastisements? And this is not the worse. To end the analogy, there is the dreadful expulsion, the eternal reprobation that awaits the unrepentant sinner, an everlasting catastrophe far worse than anything imaginable.

A great chastisement of unnervingly great proportions has already begun, I believe. The disturbing socio-economic and political trends, together with the general catastrophes brought about by the agency of either the earth or man, that we have recently witnessed are merely a prelude, I'm afraid.

Parallels have been drawn between the fall of the Roman Empire, and the ruin of other past civilizations, with our present age. I think there is something to this.

GV- I finally had time this week to read this. Thanks. I've seen this book before at the bookstore of a chapel I used to attend the TLM at. What a great composition. Thanks again.
