  • Out of nowhere tonight, our eight-year-old son, who has Asperger's syndrome (like Yours Truly), asked me to pray a Rosary with him. He will NEVER participate, so this was quite a (pleasant) shock. It's hard for someone with AS to sit still long enough to do anything, so I was more than happy to help him learn. He's been doing very well with his Catechism, too. (Our priest let him wait an extra year for First Confession and First Communion because of his condition.) It's great to see him starting to grow in the Faith, albeit at his own pace. Deo gratias! I just wanted to share the good news.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • Congratulations!
I know how it feels when you make progress with a special child!
Our child showed great progress with a major change in diet along with incorporating music in our lessons.

Thank you. As we were praying, I'd pause occasionally in the middle of a decade and say something like, "Think of how Judas, Jesus' friend, turned his back on Him. How would you feel if Ethan (our son's cousin) suddenly didn't want to be your friend?" It was to try and maintain our son's focus and put things into "his language." Whatever it takes.

  • What happy news!! You and your wife must be thrilled! Thankyou for sharing.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

  • A very happy moment indeed!

    God bless this child!
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • One of my sons has sensory processing/AS and rosary is often painful for him to recite out loud.  We don't understand why as he can lead rosary beautifully.  He knows his catechism well for his age.

BTW, he also admires Charlemagne greatly.  :king:

  • That story brought tears to my eyes! You sound like a wonderful Dad, Charlemagne, and you have a wonderful son.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

In my school there are several people with aspergers, and if they had the faith they would be able to pray. It is not as big a handicap as people think it is, in fact I would argue that it is no handicap at all. He is just weird, admit it. But he does not have a "condition" or "disorder".

  • I will never, by the grace of God, fawn over the accomplishments of someone with a fake psychiatric disease or a false psychological disorder. I know too much and I am immune from this illusion. Thank God I have been preserved from the illusions of the "helpers".

  • It's nice to see that Soulguard the Hostile is alive and well. You're totally ignorant regarding AS. Psychiatry isn't involved in any way; it's neurological. I suppose MS is a "fake disease," right? Of course, actually knowing the facts about AS would require research and effort, but we all know from your posts regarding the Faith that research isn't exactly your forte, is it? Have you blasphemed the Holy Mass or called anyone "smug pieces of crap" lately, by the way?

  • Nice way to dodge the question charlmagne.
I see you are quite satisfied with this label that has been put on the child.
Hope it makes you feel better.
Putting labels on people is one of the 5 marks of the Catholic church.
One, holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and psychiatric church.

  • your reaction to SG's post is understandable, but really, posts like that are best ignored, where possible.... well done to your little boy.

  • SG, please give it a rest.  We should rejoice at hearing about the progress of this boy.

I have a son who's on the spectrum also, and we found that his symptoms improved dramatically on a gluten free and dairy free diet.  Other people have reported similar results.  It's not just psychological, SG; there are neurological factors (neurotransmitters and brain inflammation) involved.  And the brain inflammation could be caused by gluten and dairy (casein in particular).  I have only pity for such people and think of how much they must be suffering.

There was the story of an autistic girl who could not communicate verbally.  At one point, though, they taught her how to type on a keyboard, and she started writing, speaking in vary profound terms about how much she suffered and that being in his body was like being locked in a prison.

Have a look at this video:

  • My son was diagnosed by a neuropsychologist and brain scanning shows the affected area.  Plus he had a head injury from a bad fall when he was a toddler.   He also has a low IQ.

We aren't talking about hyper annoying kids who are obsessed with playing World of Warcraft and never bathe and talk like smug robots.

Soulguard, what label has society put on you?
