  • Good article. It takes a great amount of humility to admit such things.

  • "I couldn't see any error here."

No error, but LOTS of political-incorrectness.  I wonder if Dr. Watson is Catholic?

You are reading the political-incorrectness of Idang Alibi, not Dr. Watson.

His agreement acts as a vehicle to express his disappointment and a call for self-determination. It is not an endorsement for a scientific fact. I suspect it's not the error that ChantCD has in mind, but a glaring one, is that he agrees, with words that have been repudiated.  Which in effect means that there is no agreement to be had.

  • "You are reading the political-incorrectness of Idang Alibi, not Dr. Watson."

I am also interested in learning whether or not Idang Alibi is Catholic, as well.

"His agreement is only partial, and acts as a vehicle to express his disappointment and a call for self-determination.  I suspect it's not the error that ChantCD as in mind, but a glaring one, is that he agrees, with words that have been repudiated.  Which in effect means that there is no agreement to be had."

That the words might have been repudiated does not mean that they have been invalidated.  Who repudiated them?  For what reason?

I do see this as a sort of call for self-determination, and I applaud Mr. Alibi for his stance.  May it please God that he becomes Catholic, if he is not already so.

The words were never validated either.  The original statement was that blacks are genetically less intelligent.

Jim Watson himself, after realizing what he had just said.

Essentially, Idang Alibi is courageously turning a negative into a positive.  But he does not agree per say with Jim Watson in doing so.

  • "The words were never validated either.  The original statement was that blacks are genetically less intelligent."

A theory with which, apparently, Idang Alibi himself agrees:

"Let somebody please tell me whether it is a manifestation of intelligence if a people cannot organise a free, fair and credible election to choose who will lead them. Is it intelligence that we cannot provide simple pipe-borne water for the people?"

"Jim Watson himself, after realizing what he had just said."

Yes, but what we cannot know is whether or not he repudiated his statements because he was convinced that he was wrong, or if he did so because pressure was placed on him to do so.

"Essentially, Idang Alibi is courageously turning a negative into a positive."

Perhaps.  Time will tell.  There have been black/African/negro leaders in the past that have faced the issue forthrightly... and have been denounced because of their stance.  I hope that Mr. Alibi has the courage of his convictions to truly do something positive for his people.

The best thing that could happen to them, is that they become Catholic because, by so doing, they would begin to discover the benefits of Catholic civilisation and culture.  Sadly, I dont think the SSPX has much of a presence in sub-Saharan Africa.

"But he does not agree per say with Jim Watson in doing so."

I think he does, but perhaps not directly.

  • Neither of us can dwell into their inner thoughts.

My own thoughts on this matter are threefold.

1- The scientific demonstration that blacks are less intelligent is not established.
2- IQ points are not the measure by which social organization and cohesion arise from.
3- Idang Alibi is aware of point #2 (assumption) but uses the media storm on the subject to shock his people into self-determination.

But Chant said there were 1 or 2 errors here! I guess I should wait for Chant to read my post. (Just kidding!)

As I write this, I do so with great pains in my heart because I know that God has given intelligence in equal measure to all his children irrespective of the colour of their skin.

I think this is what Matthew was referring to.  The author piles on the evidence showing that God did NOT give all people equal levels of intelligence, but fails to reach that conclusion himself.

Chant can elaborate later as he's sleeping off illness right now.   I think all the chaos on CathInfo the past few days has made him sick.  :laugh1:
