    I went back through this thread and can't remember which one it was. I remember that at the time I first read the post, I thought it sounded like something poche would say, but when I glanced at the name on the post it was yours.
    Anyway, I agree with you up to point, and I agree with those you are arguing with up to a point. My own take on the matter is that Pope Leo XIII, like Pope Pius XII, did make mistakes in indulging liberals. Just a little, but it was enough to result in great damage. Still, both popes were doctrinally sound, and I have no reason to believe they did anything other than their best to faithfully discharge the duties and responsibilities of their office. I think the critics are way too heavy-handed, and the defenders perhaps just a bit too prone to whitewashing.
