  • I thought this topic deserved its own thread, since the other is 50 pages long!

Sungenis was interviewed on a flat earth radio program, and he opined that he did not feel that flat earth was Biblical. When asked about the passage in Scripture where the devil takes Jesus to a high mountain and shows Him all the Kingdoms of earth, Sungenis averred that he did not think the Bible meant LITERALLY ALL the Kingdoms of earth.

I find this stunning, because as a Catholic, we believe the Bible to be both literal and inerrant. I was amazed that he would cherry-pick passages to interpret how he liked, ones that would mean the earth must be a ball.

Here's an article someone posted from the library section where Sungenis wrote an essay addressing flat earth in March 2016 (he's probably been innundated with questions).

  • I'll summarize the main points:

    1. He believes in the mainstream model of the universe, only with earth at center. So, he believes the sun is 93 million miles away, the planets are physical bodies, etc.

    2. He believes NASA tells the truth and does not forge the images of the earth.

    3. He believes gravity is real.

    4. He believes NASA went to the moon.

  • Also, he very strangely believes that the other planets orbit the sun, not the earth. The sun apparently orbits the earth alone...ROFL.

  • Yes, and he also believes Francis is a true pope, or does he?
    Please pray for my soul.

  • He is a very good Catholic apologist, his debates against the Protestants (especially Reformed Baptist James White) on justification, Purgatory and the Mass are excellent - they were instrumental in my return to the Catholic Church from Protestantism, I owe him a great debt.

He is also very critical of Vatican II Popes(?) and recognizes crisis in the Church, my opinion about him is very positive.

  • Does anyone know where Mr. Sungenis attends Mass? I don't think he is an SSPX supporter. Does he go to an indult or an FSSP Mass?

I have always respected Robert Sungenis. I just looked at his wikipedia page and it confirmed what I remembered that he had problems with his local Novus Ordo Bishop for being "antisemitic." That gets a gold star from me. It also says that he has doubts about the "h0Ɩ0cαųst" and that he believes in the Jєωιѕн conspiracy "aimed at Satan ruling the world."

Please pray for the repose of my soul.

Proud man.  Didn't find it himself, so he can't accept it.  Don't forget, he wrote a couple of books on the subject.  Imagine having to swallow that basketball.  I heard he is willing to share the geocentric platform with flat earthers but doesn't want to be associated believing like them because he'll look stupid.  Too late, Sunny boy.

I found flat earth because Sungenis pointed out geocentrism (for me).  I'm happy about that and I generally like his stuff, but he's either being stubborn, or...?

Seriously?  That's quite the theory there.  Some star body needs to clunk him over the head.  I asked Eric Dubay to debate him, but he didn't respond.

Sungenis said his interactions with Dubay caused him to write the essay.

It's funny because he holds fast to the notion that says the sun is massive and 93 million miles away, solely because he argues that according to Newtonian math it HAS TO BE in order to creat enough gravity to cause planets to orbit the sun. But, yet - he believes the SUN goes around the earth! So, how does that work, exactly? Because the earth is small and has no power (under the mainstream model) to "pull" the sun around it.

It really is a glaring error in logic.

  • The paper written by Sungenis is one of the worst examples of scholarship I have ever seen.

He makes MANY assumptions that cannot be proven in any way, and he has gaps in his logic that one could drive a truck through. He doesn't even use the Douay-Rheims Bible or its Latin translation, instead using the RSV Bible, which I cannot say I have ever seen a Traditional Catholic do, for his scripture references.

I'll probably take the time to refute him point by point.

But for now, I will answer his claim that there are no FE'ers who can provide a genuine photograph of the flat earth. This is not true. There are many non-NASA amateur high-altitude balloon photos of the earth that show no curvature at all.

See this photo of the sun in space and the FLAT earth:
