I’ve always thought it a bit strange that people from many places believe themselves to be “black,” as if a skin tone can create a common culture. This doesn’t really exist among people who call themselves “white.” Each has his separate culture. Example, we have separate parades and holidays among the “white” nations, St. Patrick’s Day for the Irish, Columbus Day for the Italians, Pulaski Day for the Polish, etc. There is no “White History Month” in government schools, but there is “Black” History Month, as if all people with “black” skin are of a single culture. Why no Brown History Month or Albino Day Parade?
Yes, the various European nations (I prefer "European" to "white") do have their separate cultures, but there is such a thing as being able to look at Europe as a whole, and to rejoice and be thankful to be part of a broad racial and cultural entity that has created the greatest civilization that has ever existed on the face of the earth. Think of it this way --- who has given the world its various
linguae francae, English, French, Spanish, Greek, Latin, Portuguese, and to a much lesser extent, Dutch? Are there many countries who have not received their law codes and jurisprudence, in one way or another, from Europe? And while Christianity did not originate in Europe, it was Europe that provided Christianity its seed-beds of Rome, Greece and (though schismatic) Russia. Ethiopian, Coptic, Armenian, and Indian Christianity, while venerable, have never had the global reach that European Christians have had. (Please do not think that I am in any way condoning schism or heresy, or reducing everything to a "mere Christianity". My most fervent desire is that all ancient forms of Christianity be in communion with the Roman Pontiff.)
I seek to take nothing away from African or Asian cultures, just to state that Europe is the
primus inter pares of the world's civilizations --- not "white supremacy", just acknowledging what anyone with eyes to see, has to be able to see. If people of color, people of the Global South, have an issue with this, I'd recommend that the first thing they do, is quit speaking English, French, or Spanish, and then follow that up with getting rid of Anglo-American jurisprudence or the various European legal frameworks. Wonder what
that would end up looking like?
