Wisconsin Supreme Court knocks out stay-at-home order
Posted: 14 May 2020 02:39 AM PDT

DAILYKENN.com -- Wisconsin's Democratic governor took a blow this week as the state's Supreme Court struck down his stay-at-home order.

The court ruled the order to be both "unlawful" and "unenforceable."

Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' state Department of Health Services extended the order to May 26.

A lawsuit challenging the order was filed by Republican leaders in the state's legislature.

The court concluded that "an agency cannot confer on itself the power to dictate the lives of law-abiding individuals as comprehensively as the order does without reaching beyond the executive branch's authority," according to CNN.com

Gov. Evers told CNN's Don Lemon that the order places Wisconsin in a state of chaos. "Now we have no plan and no protections for the people of Wisconsin," he said.

Stalinists commonly portray their authoritarianism as "protection." It's akin to portraying a slave plantation as a safe space for slaves.
