Was Robert E. Lee a freemason?
« on: July 10, 2023, 03:57:06 AM »
I was watching the following video and a picture of Robert E. Lee is shown when the narrator talks about Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ.

Reinhard Heydrich The Mason Hunter:

Not sure about the accuracy. No mention of Masonic affiliation on Lee's wiki page.

Though his father Henry Lee was a Freemason, listed on Wikipedia as a member of Hiram Lodge #59, Westmoreland, Virginia.

Any public record on Robert E. Lee being a mason or having any views on masonry?

This is the first time I have ever heard Robert E. Lee's name used in connection to Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ.

No. I don't think he was a Freemason. Neither was Jefferson Davis or Lincoln. Society in general's already influenced by "revolutionary" ideas all over the place. Even average people who are not Freemasons may have some coincidence with Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ because of the shared social climate. Lee was a pious old school Epsicopalian like Leonidas Polk.

Supposedly he wasn't, but given the popularity of Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ in that day, I wouldn't be surprised if he was.

His father was from that "revolutionary" more Newtonian era, the wigs, the tricorn hats, the Enlightenment knickers, but Lee wasn't a Freemason. Mosby, Davis, Jackson, Stephens weren't either. Sam Houston, however, was.

The cινιℓ ωαr was influenced by Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ, and other things as well. Not that it matters, but I think the weight of Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ came out on the side of the North anyway.
