Yes, and too many parents play right into the hands of these dictators.
Yes, I know they say they will take your children away if you don't "co-operate" with them. And it may well happen from time to time.
As a matter of principle my husband and I refused to register our children. Our two eldest went to school for under two and three years respectively, then one day we simply did not send them. The law in Queensland where we were living required the principal to inform the police if the children were missing from school for a certain time. One day we were out and on our return our children observed the wheel tracks of a 4 wheel drive vehicle and we wondered who it was. We found out when we had another visit form the police. I happened to be away that day, though hubby and children were home.
The next day I phoned the police and informed that we decided to keep our children at home for their education. The police said OK, and that was the end of it. I guess they thought we were reasonable law abiding citizens.
The law also said you had to be a qualified teacher, or be supervised by a qualified teacher. Neither applied to either my husband or myself.
As Charles Dickens tells us: “the law is a ass—a idiot.” All the time we homeschooled we were illegal, but our children got a decent education, and will homeschool their children.
