I always snicker when I see soldiers and police wearing masks. They are afraid of a flu? What kind of men are these? For them to volunteer to go into the military knowing that they could be deployed to hostile places where they could be killed any second,  that they could be canon fodder one day, and yet they are afraid of a flu germ? Now they are risking their life by taking an experimental flu shot because they are afraid of a cold?

It very well could be just that they are required by their superiors to wear them, not that they are personally afraid of the flu. Just like someone's employer may require them.
