Mithrandylan, your logical fallacy point is well taken but in response to your question:
"How is listening to music by a degenerate artist any different so long as the music isn't degenerate?"
     - a better question would be why would we expect a degenerate artist to produce spiritually edifying music in the first place?  A bad tree cannot bear good fruit after all.  And I see basically no legitimate reason for someone to expose themselves to potential demonic influence when they can simply listen to classical music.

Rock music simply has too many issues to be listened to:
    1. rock 'musicians' consecrating their music to Satan
    2. lyrics which are often immoral
    3. intrinsic issues with the nature of the music
    4. its apparently detrimental health effects
    5. etc

Well, in response to your comment about degenerate artists not making good (listenable) music, I say that depends on one's definition of "degenerate."  Perhaps a poor use of words, I basically meant a non-Catholic musician.

I posted a few songs in this thread earlier that I asked tradguy to explain how just one of these is Satanic or evil.

You said "Rock music simply has too many issues to be listened to"

haha, I'm not exactly sure what you mean.  Are those five points reasons against rock music?

    1. Again, we're talking about an entire genre of music here.  What SOME (or even most) "artists" is not a mark against the genre unless ALL artists do it.  Apply that logic to movies.  Because an overhwhelming amoung of dramas have pornography and blasphemy, are you not going to watch the ones that don't?  Are dramas "bad?"  Further, what matters most of all is the lyrical content.  If a song glorifies sin, it shouldn't be listened to, period.  But as I mentioned earlier St Paul tells us we can eat food that's been sacrificed/consecrated to false gods, which are demons.  How would listening to music that is consecrated or dedicated to demons be any different?  Remember, I'm talking about a song that doesn't have questionable lyrics.

    2. Immoral lyrics are to be avoided, yes.  But as mentioned before, immoral lyrics by some, many or even most rock musicians does not make a genre evil in itself.

    3. Please explain, I've heard this before

    4. That sounds very subjective.  I can't see that as a mark against the genre.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).
