I don’t think I’m going to debate this anymore until FE adherents present a logical working model that has a scale in miles or kilometers and accounts for the movements of the Sun, the Moon, eclipses, time zones, planets, comets, tides, etcetera.
This is my biggest problem with FE. Any given model you find that seems to solve one problem creates another. I figure that the earth is round but that there's no reason we have to assume that absolutely all of the 'science' surrounding it is true. It seems like people on here think you have to be a flat earther to be skeptical of NASA. They post one obvious fake and suddenly think it's a gotcha moment.
Why should we trust our government or the scientists on everything? We obviously shouldn't lol. But at the same time the round earth model answers a lot more of my questions than flat earth does. It always bothers me when people try to redirect with "uhhh it's a new theory, we don't have all the answers yet" or "you clearly don't understand the first thing about flat earth if you're asking this!"
Or better yet, "you roundies need to be spoonfed everything!" And then they proceed to either not give a model, or give another non-working model...
Maybe I need to be spoonfed anyways. Everyone seems to think that you must be completely brainwashed to believe this. I was taught about round earth in school. A lot of stuff that the schools teach is total brainwash. Help me out here, I am willing to hear people out. Please explain to me how it works. It always feels kinda dishonest when people avoid that side of the topic.
If you are that convinced about FE, I would love to see why. Random videos debating the curvature of the earth or blurry shape shifting 'stars' are not helping me at all here...
I like to be able to understand HOW something works. This matter is not one where God told us to just trust Him, it isn't really meant to be a mystery. It's something we can study, and come up with conclusions for, and to some degree understand. Nobody seems to be able to produce a model of flat earth that makes sense on a basic level.
The sun setting and rising is a viewable event that happens every single day without fail. On a round earth, it makes sense how this happens at different times in different locations, and how it always disappears /below/ the horizon. I always picture the sun just ZOOMING off into the distance, in a curved path, getting steadily smaller on the FE models lol...
We can actually observe (as amateur astronomers, with our own home telescopes) what it looks like when there is a solar eclipse on Jupiter. Jupiter is clearly round. The moons of Jupiter cast visible and predictable shadows that we can see from earth onto Jupiter's surface. Why do we think the earth is flat and has mystery eclipses again? Why would it be so different from Jupiter?
I just don't really get it. I wish I could see a model that made sense to me. All the name calling and stuff seems so unnecessary. If we had a real model it would make sense on a level I think more people could accept. Instead we have each side 'proving' that the other side is objectively wrong with random YouTube videos. I don't have the answers for why those videos contradict round earth, but nobody else does either!
I really do want to understand why everyone seems to believe in this but it always seems to end with cheap gotchas where hard questions are ignored. I am sure the round earthers do the same to a degree but at the same time at least the round earth can answer a whole lot of the questions, though maybe not all of them.
