A nice infographic about executions in the United States since 1976:
Note the place held by Texas.
Not-so-subtle message to the violent criminals:
Stay the ____ out of Texas! Have a nice day.
P.S. We also have Castle Doctrine, which means if someone is on your property apparently intending to commit a felony (burglary, robbery, murder, rape, etc.) you can immediately start shooting at his head and torso. No "retreat" necessary, no warning shot.
Oh, and everyone can own guns here. No permit or card required. You only need a permit to pack heat while in public.
So let's do the math -- if you break into a house in Texas, it's likely the owner has gun(s), plus he has permission to shoot you dead. And if you get "lucky" and the victim doesn't have a gun, and you succeed in committing your crime, you better not get caught or you could end up in the Electric Chair.
Criminals beware!
I love Texas.
