  • I just want to put out a warning to anyone that has not seen this movie that while the first one borders on or may even be morally offensive due to extreme violence, the second two movies in the trilogy are definitely morally offensive due to the graphic sɛҳuąƖ nature of more than a few scenes. The second two are not like the first movie at all and should not be watched by any upstanding Catholic.

  • Haven't watched the second two and barely watched the first--enough so I knew where it was coming from and thought at the time that it described our brain dead society to a T.

  • I second John Steven's remarks.  The second and third films ought to be avoided by anyone (unless you truly enjoy going to confession).

  • Oddly, I was discussing this film the other day.  I have never seen it, nor desired to see it, but it sounds as if the first one might be worth a look.  That said, I already understand the story behind it - and the reality of parts of its 'veiled' (?) message.

I saw the first and second Matrix films but not the third. I wasn't standing up!

The thing that troubled me about the first (and it may have been in the second too, I didn't notice), was that while I was queuing to see it, I noticed from the poster that Marilyn Manson had contributed to the soundtrack. I scrupled about whether I should be there or not. Whilst I'm a "liberal" on the pop music issue (and some rock), I draw the line a fair distance before Marilyn Manson.

Erm, well, I won't buy cds with a "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" label on!

    Clare.

Also, I avoid blasphemy in songs.

For example, I had all Adam and the Ants' albums except the first. Eventually, I found it in a second hand shop, and bought it. Got it home, started playing it, while I looked through the lyrics. Saw one objectionable song (called "Day I Met God") and decided I couldn't have that record, and I took it back and exchanged it. Maybe I should've burnt it to prevent someone else "enjoying" what seemed a blasphemy to me.

This is a healthy instinct, Clare.  I used to listen to much of that stuff, too, but it is disordered.  Such disorder naturally wears on you as you try to order your life correctly (and the music militates against such correction).  At first, I sold my CDs, then I trashed them, as I did not want anyone else listening to that stuff.

Btw, the disorder is IN THE MUSIC, not just bad lyrics.  I am not just saying that, as there are some wonderful studies/books/talks that make this crystal clear.  God speed, my lady.
